Hi all

I want to take off my clutch cover on my P650 to just inspect and clean under it and was wondering if its hard...? After i start to slide it off is anything going to come flying out or is anything tricky to connect when I'm putting it back on...? I have the big service manual and will study it when I get home today, but I was just curious now. So if anyone can give me a little more insight on removing the cover I would appreciate it...thanks

Dave

I glanced at the manual a while back. Don't think anything will "sproing" when you pull the cover. Don't know that for a fact, though. Haven't been in to mine yet. NYROC should have your answer. He seems to be very knowledgeable of the P-650.
GOOD LUCK, keep us posted!

I read in a different post that some guy took his clutch cover off his P650 and then his 2wd/4wd indicator started flashing back and forth. Why did it do that and is there something I should look out for so it doesn't happen to me..?

Nothing will "SPROING" on you had mine of 2 weeks ago to measure it just to refresh put a straight edge across it and mesure down from the straight edge at first mine seemed REAL loose mut after measuring it that way it was still in spec. Don't worry just remove the bolts surrounding the clutch no complications.

Just clean the cover seal up before you put it back.

I just replaced my belt, and the only thing you really do not want to do is start it while the cover is off. The KEBC will not make any new sounds, but will cause you to use what little French you know. I know a guy that did this, and he was able to get it back, but the kebc motor wound out (kebc always reaches out to hit the pulley).

Without reshimming, my belt deflection changed from 1.25 to .87. Lucky me! That's just about enough good luck to make up for ripping a valve stem off on a ride yesterday. I replaced the front ones with the screw on steel kind.

MAN! That valve stem problem sounds like something I'd have happen. Last w.e., my friend Wrecks slit the sidewall of his new Spyder trac L.F., I came along ,5 seconds later, and bent the bead on my new "C" series wheel L.F. on the same "forking" rock!!! We ere BOTH using LOTS of french last Sat.!
nyroc-- if you DON'T start the engine, but turn the ignition switch to "on", won't the KBEC motor start screwing itself out, too?

I don't know, trx450, I don't dare try it. I heard from northarkie650muddr that his wound out when he started it.

I have tire problems. ALmost makes me wish I kept the old dunflops in case of emergency.

nyroc-- Guess it would be a good idea to unplug that sucker! 'til you are done, and have cover on. When should I check my belt?. It has 350 mi. on it/34 hrs. I've heard no weird noises, performance MAY have dropped slightly, or could I be getting used to it? Why did you check yours, was it just time to?
What tire problems are you having???????

I love my tires and am tickled pink. My valve stem got ripped off. I had to break the bead to fix it. I replaced the other front one too.

I suggest you take the shim out at 750miles and don't replace stuff until 1500. I worked on mine at 750, and it was only half wore out.

I was confused and mistaken about my belt. I replaced it today, and the deflection is .87 on the money, but now the belt sqeals at idle. Works fine otherwise. It is a little easier to pull a wheelie also, but the top speed is the same. I did not need to replace it. I should have left it alone.

I think the sqealing will go away.

nyroc-- Speaking of squealing, mine started last Sat. It ONLY "squawks" one time, when you are taking off from a dead stop, on uphills!!??!! The sound is that of a beagle dog yelping! Just ONE time, on taking off. Only does it for 1/2 sec., no other sounds!!?? Weird, huh? I assume it is the belt, sounds like that area. I HAD gone thru some deep water, a couple hours before the noise started, but it NEVER slipped.
The bike has 38hrs/360mi., I believe. Guess I'll check it before I go to Hatfield/McCoy trails in early june. SUGGESTIONS ?????
