Lakota Vs. 250EX
#2
speed- when I raced a Lakota with the 250EX it was even, whoever got the jump won.
handling- thats kinda personal preference, the 250EX is lighter and more manuverable while the Lakota is heavier and is planted to the ground more.
Power- The lakota has more power, due to the fact it has a cc advantage.
acceleration- the 250EX accelerated a little faster.

For what it's worth Dirt Wheels did a shootout not too long ago between these 2. They stated the Lakota accelerated much faster, had better suspension, higher top speed, and handled better. Blew me away that Dirt Wheels stated the Lakota won every catagory against the Honda. See if you can get your hands on that issue. You will not be disappointed in the Lakota, especially after a few minor mods. that really wake the machine up.

The main thing that sepperates the hondas, and now the new suzuki. If you look at them the engines sit pretty far back in the frame. These quads are known to wheely easy and keep the front end light, wich helps in MX racing quite a bit. But in XC or woods racing, I see most honda riders having to pedle the gas coming out of corners due to the front end coming up.
If it realy matters I raced yesterday at a pretty fast mx track with alot of high flying jumps, and two long woop sections (jeeeeeeze on those woops) We Gave a 250EX a half of track head start before our gates dropped, all of us where able to catch and pass him within 5 laps. I believe it's a 1 mile track.

I rode with a guy last summer that had a 250 ex.We traded for awhile and later we drag raced. The 250 is definitly lighter in the front and easier to wheelie. But that's about all the good I can say about it.The engine is very slow reving and the shifter seemed long and sloppy. We drag raced three times and I beat him all three times by a good margin. Each time I took him off the line and never saw him again. After the first two runs,I thought mabey he didn't know how to launch. So I gave him a few pointers but it didn't help much.
The 250's handling isn't bad due to the light weight. It gives it a nimble feel. It's most at home in tight woods.I don't know what a 250 costs off hand but if they're even close in price than I would say go with the Lakota. But if the 250 is much cheaper than I think it would make a good entry level sport quad.
