Kawi650 raced Pol700, Z400 and Raptor...

Hi guy's;
Went to the sand pit this afternoon and it was full of bikes...but most noteably were the POL700,Z400, and two Raptors. A kid on the 700 spotted me and came right over to me and challenged me to a drag. He was all of 80lbs, and on that monster he disappeared! A guy on a raptor i had been talking with said the kid's dad owns the local polaris dealership and he races SKI-DOO'S in winter. He wanted a piece of me i tell you, so i said sure and we lined off and went at it...guess what...he won by about half a quad length!!! We went again( still in 2wd ) and this time we could'nt finish, someone got in the way, but we were neck and neck. In 4wd i beat him by a quad length but he always got a few feet on me out of the hole!!! I out weighed the kid by 130lbs easy and my trunk seat weighs 32lbs and is by no means aerodynamic but he always got the holeshot!!! I can only attribute it to better tires on the 700...( the stock650 tires are horrible!) The traction in the pit today was terrible and wheel spin was crazy... loose sand and gravel everywhere. The 650 and 700 are more equal in speed when weight is a factor ( My machine+seat and me outweighed him and his machine by a good 30lbs) On to the Raptor and the Z400... the guy on the raptor weighed a good 200lbs...the kid on the z400 about 100lbs ( the same kid that beat me last week) The raptor won by 2 quad lengths and is a faster machine no doubt about it in my mind. We raced each other in a 3 way ( p650,Raptor and Z400 ) I was in front till they hooked up... only took about 10 feet though. The raptor again won. the Z400 must have missed a gear cause i was neck and neck with him this time. I ended the debate as to which quad is faster between the RAPTOR and the Z400...on this terrain at least , with a heavier rider... the Raptor. The P650 is faster than the Pol 700 with equall riders. but otherwise it's close on the loose stuff.
PS; the kid on the Z400 could ride circles around the guy on the raptor

Hi guy's
Forgot to mention the kid on the POLARIS 700 is on his 3rd one!!!! That's right 3RD one !!! He said the engines blew on the first 2 !!! He is now getting a scrambler instead. His father owns the local Polaris dealership so I guess It's not a big deal to them, but can you imagine if a regular Joe owned these bikes... In defence of the bikes in question... the kids rides like a savage so maybe it's the packing he is giving them. But then again.. he is only 75 to 80 lbs so how hard can he be on it. I ride my 650 like it's *** is on fire and it performs like a dream ( I weigh 210lbs ) The kid races Ski-doo's, in what is known as snowcross against adults!!! Maybe the 2 he blew up were lemons... who know's. I checked my air filter after yesterday's ride and it was very dirty. I have yet to clean it and my bike has 400kms. on it... guess I better get on the ball. What do you guy's use to clean it. The owners man. says a high flash point solvent. Any suggestions?

I used warm water and Dawn dish soap. I'm not sure if that is the correct thing to use, but it cleaned it. The manual says not to use gas, but thats what my dealer uses, so go figure. I used soapy water to be on the safe side, and got a good foam oil to apply after it was dry. Seemed to make a difference slightly. Mine was pretty dirty also. My 650 seems to run better or worse depending on the temp outside. Probably something to do with the jetting, but I don't know much about that, and it looks like the jets are hard to get to. I have a slight backfire when I let off full throttle and coast to a stop, but it runs like a champ otherwise. What a smooth running powerful motor this 650 is. I just hope the belt holds up better than my Polaris belts did.

Hey kawirob, the 650 is my measuring tool to see how my up grades on my sport400L are going.When I fist got it(stock) a 650 would whip me like a red headed step kid.It was close out of the hole but he'd pull away about 3 quad lengths and stay there.Now he's the red head.But for a sport ute the 650 kicks butt.I love one but it is outta my league.And I wieght 260lbs,so traction is not a problem for me.I wonder what 650 could do if someone removed the racks and front drive and tuned that monster twin and put some MX tires on it!I'am sure I'd be the red head again.
