Hey all- I've got a old 160cc shaftdrive engine off of a 3-wheeler-- Its on a g0-cart now... I'm in the process of trying to get it running good again, and was wondering--

Its always been hard to start, as in neccessary to pulstart it behind a quad to get it going.. What could cause poor cold-starting? It will normally start good after its nice and warm- but cold starting is a bear.

The carb on it is from a 185- its a flatslide minkuni ( i think). Its never idled well either, what should I try? Getting different jets? I really would like to see it run well- as even when it was hard to start and keep running, was a BLAST!!

So anybody got any info or help- please let me know!

i have a manual but i dont think it will help if you have the wrong carb on it. were you able to hook up the choke.

Nope- its got a choke lever on the carb itself..

If its so hard to get going without pullstarting it- which just cranks the motor faster than hand-pulling (the rope), maybe its notgetting enough fuel, at least on the low end.. Hmm.. Anybody know alot about carbs+ carb tuning?? thanks guys!

try turning the pilot screw in a turn or out a turn, see if this does anything.

NO!

It will run, but is hard to idle down without stalling, and is still a B#@ch to start!.... Thinking about trying to get a new carb..

i would try taking the bowl off and cleaning it out real good. mine was hard starting and would idle. it ended being full of crap from all the years of ridingand just siting. now the thing runs good for achange. its cheaper than a new carb.

It could be caused by dirt- but I have cleaned it a few times in the past.. I did notice my cheesy bolt-on air filter was letting a nice amout of dust into my carb... Guess I should try cleaning again just to be sure.
