I am considering adding some additional lighting to my 650. I have thought about some KC daylighters or something similar monuted on the front rack...has anyone else done this....what is the output of the alternator? KC has some math calculations on there site, but I need to know how much power we put out...I use a handheld spot some that fits in the accesory plug ( I had to up the fuse to 10 amps cause it kept blowing the 5 amp one), but it tiring riding with one hand...thanks

I have added a steering mounted light and a back up light. They are both 55 watts. I have them both put on a seperate switch, they both come on together. I have not had any normal charging problems running the lights. The only time I ran my battery down is when we were doing some slow trails with all the lights on. I had got stuck a couple times and required a couple 50' pulls with my winch. On the second pull the battery got to low to power the winch and I had to use a ****** block. Other then that I do not see any problems running additional lights.

 

I realize that this dosen't count..but....on my street bike I have 4 1/2" passing lights, the stockers were anemic, 30 watts 15K candle power..I changed them out to a 4416 (30 watts 35K candlepower), also there is a 76XX light that is 35 watts and 75K candlepower, so a lot of light can be had for the same wattage, the best place to look is probally at a NAPA lighting catalog, if you can find the cans that the bulbs go in, you can really throw some light on the trail or road, by replacing the lights.(BTW, the 4416 are only about 8 bux each or so..)
