Hi guy's
I was curious as to how much hp that Scott Kilby and Mike Penland's p650's have? I read somewhere that Lurch77 (I think)rode with one if not two of them and said they were much faster. I read about a heavily modded Suz Vinson580 out dragged Kilby's in a recent race... although I believe it was Kilby who won the race(the article on the Vinson didn't say that though).I was wondering just what exactly they have done to thier P650's ( I don't think it's a whole lot )

Mike races in the stock class, so his machine, for the most part, is stock. He has minor things like a high flow air filter, but the exhaust and engine are stock. He does have a much lighter machine then us commoners though, as his class is allowed to remove just about anything they want. He has no racks, has aftermarket bumpers, and a bunch of other things have been removed (like the fender brackets). This all adds up to make the machine feel faster, less weight to haul around of course. I rode Mikes machine, and it was noticable quicker then a factory stock machine. In fact, riding his machine is what made me go out and buy mine.

I rode with Scott all day that same day too, but did not actually ride his bike. However, it is MUCH faster then a common 650. I think it is safe to say that it is one of the most modified 650's around. Not only does it have the common power ups like air filter and exhaust, it also has a new cam and other goodies. The cam makes it sound like a Harley almost...really sweet sound, especially with the Big Gun.
They claim, if I am not mistaken, about 40% more power then a stock 650. Let me tell you, there is no way to keep up with this machine. Not only is the driver good, the machine is as well.
Scott was also clocked at 71mph. That mioght not seem that fast compared to sport quads. But for a utility, that is really moving. Especially for a machine made to make power in the low range.

Lurch77;
Thank you for the info...appreciate the quick reply. It's interesting to see what your p650 looks like without the front rack ( bumper ) ala Mike Penlands bike . I just removed mine to touch up the paint ( I rear ended my buddy a little bit ). A local paint shop has an off the shelf paint ( AUTO-FIT , Felgensibler , Silver Wheel ) It is a perfect match for the 650's racks and bumper. Although I sort of like the look without the bumper, you won't have any protection without it. I absolutely love my machine and hope yours treats you as well as mine did me. I like your posts, as I do most all posts, and I enjoy reading any and all material on the best bike ever built OUR BIG BAD KAWI'S !!!
