Okay guys,

I need some help on an "all-around" good tire for the P650. Snow, mud, rocks and hardpack. I'm sure it's been asked before, but I need some advice. I thought the OEM Dunlops on the P400 worked fine, but the P650's tires suck as you all (ya'll) know.

I still feel the combo I use is the best all around tire set. 26" Mudrunners on the front, and sur traks on the back. Perfect diameter match too. Lightest 26" tires you can get. Awesome hardpack traction on rear tires, and great mud traction from fronts. This is the best way I could find to have my cake and eat it too. Tons of fun tires. Weight robs power, this set is awesome cuz it is light.

Titan 589M/T (or M/S?) are pretty good all around, and among the lighter ones. Still alot heavier than my set. Some like the 489XT tires.

Mudrunners are pretty good all around tires, handle well, ride well, a bit better in mud and a little bit not as good hardpack traction. Really good in snow.

Bearclaws are probably better in the snow than just about everything.

Gators, Vamps, Zillas are better for mud. The taller the better. I have zillas, they ride pretty well, excellent in mud, but suck in the snow, and they suck on rocks.

Guess it is all a matter of preference. nyroc and I use the same rear tires, and I use Spider-Tracs on the frt. These are in 26". I think nyroc still has pix of mine and his tires on his 650 Site. Check it out. Nice site, nyroc does a nice job..........
YEP--they're still on nyroc's site #33 thru #36 is my set-up. This combo is EXCELLENT for my style of riding, and terrain.

Did Kawa just put those dunflops on there to keep there weight near the 600 pound mark as possible?

I just replaced the stock dunflops on my wife's Kodiak and they weigh about twice as much as the ones that came off of the prairie. They are the same size from both quads, just a different model number.

BTW, we put 25 inch Bear Claws all way around on the Kodiak and they seem to work pretty well.

I have decided that my Dirt Devils are too hard for the rocky terrain that I usually ride in. As soon as I can wear them out, I will likely go to TRX and Nyroc's setup with 26 inchers.

I think Kawi saved weight and money with those stock tires. I reaize that many of us would replace what ever tire they put on, but it would be a lot better if they gave us something better like a Sur trak, 489, Bighorn, or Rawhide Grip to start with.

Sur traks have unbelievable rock grabbing traction. Trx450 and I just had to pick another front tire to use in front due to the fact that maxxis only makes one size of sur trak in a 26". I am really happy with the mudrunners on the front. They ride pretty smooth.

589 M/S tires are a very good all around tire. I rode them on a 650 after riding my 650 w/ Mudrunners and it had more dry traction than mine. Mud traction wasn't as good as mine though. I would think the 589 M/S would fair better in the occassional mud hole than the Sur Traks, they get LOTS of dry ground traction and grab a lot. I would LOVE to ride a 650 w/ the Sur Traks, my dad's 26" Dirt Devils ride REAL sporty w/ great traction and I love it. I'd probably get myself in trouble w/ Sur Traks.

We have 27 inch BEARCLAWS on our 650 and they do good in most conditions. Good on trail riding, snow and mud except for thick sticky mud, then they dont clean out. Get either the 27 or 26 inch but if you need the g/c get the 27's, we didnt notice alot of power loss but did a little. They generate a slight amount of handle bar woble though.
Either of 589's tires are good but are a little more expensive than the bearclaws and are a little heaverier than the bearclaws, but im not sure.
Hope this helps, but its just my opinion

As far as wobble goes, it is not the tread's fault. Anytime you mount something heavier than a dunlop tire on an ATV rim you need to make sure it is balanced. Hopefully, you will balance the tire before you put slime it it.

Also, any tread better than the stockers will accentuate poor handling caused by excessive toe. So, if you think it handles funny at higher speeds, check the toe.

Titan or ITP 589's. Same tire. I highly recommend!

Thanks folks, A lot of great advise. But I think I'm more confussed that before. Just kidding. I starting to lean towards the ITP or Titan 589 M/S M/T in 26". I was wondering if they will fit the stock rims (running out of money). I also think the balance and alignment are key factors in performance.

Thanks guys
