Maxxis SurTraks ???
#1
For anyone one who has SurTraks....
Have you had any problems with them only being 2 ply? Flats, sidewall flex? Are they bouncy like the stockers?
Any info would be great, I just don't want to buy them if I am going to get flats. I only put one hole in the stock rears in 800 miles, and have not gotten any holes in the fronts in 1200.

I change all my tires myself, so I get to "feel" how tough they are. I have never ripped or punctured any tire. So I just guess the thicker and tougher feeling, the more puncture resistant.
The surtraks are much stronger than stockers. This was very evident to me when I dismounted them and had them side by side.
However, I would be foolish to say that surtraks are as puncture or rip risistant as most 6 ply. They are much better than stock, but not as tough as mudrunners, not even close to 589s, not even in the same ballpark as mudzillas.
They ride really smooth. They don't flex too much like the stockers. I would say that they don't bounce as much either.

In your opinion, how well do they grip on hard pack?
These 589 M/T's don't grab worth a damn unless your already rolling about 30mph. And I only have 2lbs of air in them. I need something that is going to grip on hard pack, I only run into ocasional mud, all the trails are hard pack clay or dirt.

Well, come to think of it, that doesn't say alot. Out of the tires I have owned: mudrunners, mudzillas, stockers and surtraks, what would you guess would have the best? Certainly not the mud tires!
They bite hardpack better than stockers. I would bet sur traks are among the best hardpack tires.
