New Noise?
#1
Has anybody heard of this noise? It is a ticking, or slight popping noise. (almost like a pinging motor, but not.) I only hear it at very low rpm, and only when the motor is really working hard. (like climbing a very steep grade.) I hear it mostly in low 4wd, but that is only because when I climb something in 2wd the rear wheels spin (love them DunFlops!), and the motor doesn't load up as hard. I've heard it in high but not nearly as bad. I think that it is coming from the drive part of the converter, but not sure?
Anybody know?
Thanks

Mine does that too, very faint, and I guess I thought it was the swingarm bushings creaking under load, or possibly a loose tolerance on one of the bearings on the drive shaft. The wost thing for the driveline is that slow stuff. Rear spring?
The frame is solid, I gues I can't think of what else would make the noise.

Ihave been hearing that, too. I think mine does it in 2WD ONLY, under a load, such as a steep hill. I notice it when I am accelarating moderately up a hill, not on a hard pull, not on extremely light throttle. I think it is up front, possibly a frt. wheel brng noise(like the 360?) or a noise in the CV joints. Mine is a VERY subtle little, rythmic "click". Guess it'll have to get worse, before I can find it!
BTW-- Tested the EPI "black spring" in WNF this Sunday, one word:incredible!

I did a forum search and I think mine is making a similiar noise. After my prairie has been ridden hard and really had a chance to heat up, I notice a noise like you described 650freak. It only does it at low rpm's. The best my dealer could come up with was clutch noise after normal wear, or either detonation. I am not sure if it is either. It started only after my dealership took my motor apart and put it back together.
650freak, did you ever find what was causing your noise?

Old topic! Wow. Whatever that sound is, it hasn't hurt anyone. It hasn't affected my machine. No probs.
I don't see 650freak anymore. TRX450 is a regular. If he isn't here, he is at the "time" or one of the others.
As far as I know, and as far as other people have told me, that faint creak is the rear drive shaft. It is a normal noise. I don't notice it now with my louder muffler.

LOL that will fix it, get a louder muffler Thats how I fixed a noise my wife was complaining about in her car, I reached over and turned up the radio. problem solved! (she was not amused) I have noticed that sound as well for quite a while. Has'nt seemed to be a problem and hasnt gotten any worse. I wouldnt worry about it.

if its air cooled sometimes the fan will make a ticking. or if its chain drive when the chain is moving slower it will rub on one of the chain slides up by the foot shifter.(the drive gear) it took me like a month to figure out where it was coming from. although some of you are drive shaft. i have no clue!
