I think my belt or clutch maybe getting worn out or somthing. At an idle there is a slight thumping sound coming form under the clutch cover. I also cant get the top speed i used to get. I used to get 65 now tops is about 62. Any ideas? Maybe just the belt is worn? I have about 500mi on it so far. I have only had it for about 2 1/2 months now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

500 miles and you haven't touched the belt yet? It's definitly very loose. Go to the Nyroc site for adjustment details.

Mine stated doing the same thing just the belt I havn't adjusted mine yet just waiting on black sping. I plan on doing everything at once jets, DG snorkle and air filter have everything except black spring. Nyroc's site is great it will help you a lot that way you don't have to pay the dealer and you know it's done right

Checked the belt deflection. It is off by about a half an inch. Well guess i will be seeing how to get it adjusted. Not looking forward to it though.

The slight thumping you hear at idle is probably your primary clutch "pucks" (I can't recall the proper name) that guide the outer sheeve of the clutch. As they ware they will cause an anoying rattle. Just rock the outer sheeve of the primary back and forth. If you notice free play on the ramps then that is likly the noise you are hearing. It is not really a big concern but the noise is a pain.

Yes do the clutch you will get a definate response after removing the shims maybe all you have to do is take out one. Follow the directions via Nyrocs pics you can't go wrong. If you have the manual do the math to see what shim you need or not at all it will help. Something to notice I found this out on my machine the front shives have a groove in them at the bottom of both. This I think is wear from too much idling the belt will rubb from side to side just my thoughts doesn't seem to hinder top end or the performance at all. I am going to make a bolt to take off the shive weld them up and machine it down to see if it makes any difference. The alternative is very expesive shives might have to go there but don't want to.

mtecate--- It is definately belt adjustment time. It isn't that intimidating, once you have gone thru the learning curve. I can adjust mine in about 45 minutes, now, start to finish. I turned out a spring compressor tool in the lathe at work, and made a pin-spanner to hold the (driven) pulley while torquing the big nut that holds the whole mess on to the trans input shaft. Get a factory manual, and follow nyroc's instructions, tips and you can't go wrong. It will become second nature, after a while. Just a part of your maintenance routine. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I think the noise you are hearing is the 4 clutch weight, they weight about 58 grams each, they hang free at an idle, but as you increase RPM they swing out causing the clutch to force the belt out farther in the primary and decrease in the driven. At an idle you can sometime hear them clicking, as they are in the free prosition, especially if your belt is worn. If there is actually a thumping noise, you better take your cover off and take a look. 8 bolts of 10mm.

The noise i hear was the belt deflection. I measured it and it is off by over a half inch. I had the belt measured at the dealer and its in great shape yet. I am not to worried about digging into the beast and adjusting it myself. I had rebuilt my 01 raptors tranny. So its not about the work or ability. I actually like tinkering. The reason i am not looking forward to it is i have a back problem and its difficult for me to do the maintenance on it. Heck i aint even suppose to be riding it but i just cant sit in the house watching soaps. I gotta be outside. I told my fiance, the day i cant ride the quad is the day they put me in a box and cover me with dirt. I dont care if i lost both arms and legs. I would find a way to ride. LOL!
