I'm working on talking my dad into getting a 4-wheeler. I know this is the kawi forum, but I also know that alot of you have other brands and also know a great deal. He is looking at something with independent rear suspension and 4wd. Auto or manual doesnt really matter. He also does not really need a big bore. I think that artic cat and polaris are the only ones with IRS and smaller engines, but also noticed the prices on there are also about 6k+. Am I correct on this? How is reliability on these brands? Would he be better off spending the extra few hundred and getting a Griz or the like? Thanks alot guys.

I know people who don't need a big bore who are 100% satisfied with the Prairie 360, Prairie 400, and Suzuki Vinson. The Kawasaki 360 and 400 are very reliable machines. They ride so well that I just don't think most people need IRS. I don't feel that he would be better off getting a griz.
Artic can owners complain a lot about their Cat's problems. Polaris is not as bad these days. 660's have some problems that are longer term, harder to deal with and more nagging than the commonplace yet very simple to fix problems of the 650.

The sp400 is a solid atv. It's got a 425cc engine, irs, good tires and a price of $5899. The 400 Outlander is supposed to be nice, won't be out until Dec. So not much rider experience on one yet. I never heard that they had a front locker, but I might of over read it. I think there a little on the ugly side, but that's my opinon. The 360 Prairie is nice, SRA, but still gives a nice ride. Heard top speed around 45mph. Price $5599 and doesn't come with a speedo(you can get as a extra), but has a locker. The 400 Kodiak is the cheapest at $5499, but in 03 they lost low range and rear disk brakes and has no locker. I would have him try them, then find out about the dealers service. Price isn't everything. A BAD DEALER CAN MAKE A GREAT ATV LOOK BAD.
