scootdog--- I am surprised you didn't suggest C-4 explosive! LOL
Seriously, I use kerosene. I dip it, lightly wring out the K-1, blow out the rest with CAREFUL use of an air gun and let dry overnite. Oil it, and ride.

The best way to clean foam filters is parts solvent, you can get it at most auto parts stores. It cost's about $3-$4 a gallon but it will last a long time. Just put it in a bucket with a lid so you can store it. If you want to get real creative make about a 3" mesh basket the size of the bottom of the bucket and put it in upside down so when you wash the filter all the dirt settles to the bottom. This is the easiest way to clean a filter and it is as clean as new. I used this method for three years when I raced motocross, and I cleaned my filters (3 of them) at least 4 times a week. That means the solvent would last at least a year or longer with your Prairie. I've only had my 650 for 6 months and switched to the K&N filter, I don't think it's a good idea to use the solvent on the K&N. They make a special cleaner for that one. Try the solvent you won't believe how good it works!

The 02 and 03 filters are totally different. Teh 02 filter was flat where the 03 changed airhorns and mounted the filter like an automotive type sort of trioval down in the box. However I imagine you could put an 02 filter in the box but you would have to remove the retaining cage for the 03 filter.
