Greetings Master Nyroc and fellow followers. I am new to the 650 machine. Have a couple hundred miles on a stock machine. Half joy riding around a small resort community here in Wyoming and half hunting the elusive Wapati in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. I am wonderin just how deep of a river , lake , or mud hole can one of these wonderous machines travel trough. I did take the 650 over some country that other riders just turned off the key.....slung their rifles on their shoulders and started walking to follow me. I know they can do awesome feats & I Enjoy reading everyones posts. I have learned a TON from the posts here. Thanks for all your insight & wisdom.

I'm not The Master but I should be able to answer your question. As long as there is absolutely no possibility that the machine will have to stop for any reason you can slowly cross water up to the front rack, the level of the engine and transmission intakes. If you may have to stop or may get stuck, go no deeper than the exhaust pipe. Both your transmission exhaust and engine exhaust can suck water back into them resulting in major engine damage or a drowned transmission.

 

From personal experience, 650's can go in a lot deeper water than most anyone would try. I saw two go into a river that was 4.5 to 5 foot deep in the middle. There was also a swift current. 5 quads entered the river. 2 P650's led the way followed by a 500 scrambler 4X4, a new z400 and a raptor. By about a quarter of the way across the last three were doing barrel rolls with their riders behind them or under them. The Prairies somehow made it the width of the river. The riders on the 650's were standing on the back rack and the machines wheelied across. In the deepest sections they were bouncing up and down off the bottom.

Unfortunately, since no one else made it across they had to turn around and come back. As they slowed to help their fallen comrads, both were also drowned out. Not a pretty picture. 5 quads in the river at 11:30pm. As a warning, be commited when crossing water and most times you will make it. But ask these guys p650's are no fun to get running again after taking on water, sand and a couple small fish.
