HIGH OR LOW?

Don't want to rain on anyone's party, but I think you would have way too much air restriction with the tacky cloth, bounce or swiffers. I think it is going to take something like the material now used in the air intake filter for the carbs. Maybe need to extend the CVT air intake snorkel well above the plastic and use a box like frame covered with something similiar to the foam filters used for the carbs.

1Bearman was workin on this and had something tested. He was working with a supplier and was trying to make us a filtration system. He had tested it in the desert and found greatly reduced pulley wear.
I haven't heard anything about it since.
Polaris riders have been using nylon panty hose (on the cvt inlet, not just for smooth legs), supposedly with success. They haven't said that the belt overheats on them.
GEEBEE, you are right about the need for air flow. 1Bearman evidently had adequate flow. I don't know how he got sufficient surface area to maintain that flow in dusty conditions. The ribs on the belt are for cooling. It definitely needs cooling.
I can't see it where my 650 is parked (stuffed) at the moment, but isn't there any room at all under the fender for a can shaped chamber somewhere on the cvt inlet. Something you could remove with hoseclamps and remove a filter that has pleats for increased filtration area?
-Some other people have thought about refrigeration cooling the cvt (closed system, no dust, no agua).
-Another guy thought about some kind of centrifuge filter (like the filterless vaccuums) that removes dust and spits it out while still flowing clean air to the cvt. Might not work well with mud.
-Yet another guy thinks that a small aircompressor, taking advantage of the cooling possibilities provided by changing the pressure state of air, could impinge compressed (cold after it expands) air right on the belt to cool it. Not a bad idea, could eliminate dust probs. Less air is needed. Inlet and outlet could be well protected from deep agua. Could be difficult since the belt moves in and out. Spraying it in one sppot might not do the trick.
Those funny ideas cost bux and cost electricity (which costs power). Probably cost more money than I have to waste.
Anybody got any good filter ideas?

On my Kodiak I have been using the pantyhose idea for 2 years. I have my snorkle faced forward to force air in better, the panty hose also keeps foreign objects out. I havent checked the p650 but the Kodiak actually sucks air in through the intake snorkle and pushes it out the exhaust snorkle. You can use paper to test the front and you might be able to feel the air flow from the rear. Put the paper near the front snorkle and rev it up in neutral to see if it pulls the paper tight.

Thats not a bad idea either as long as you have a way of not letting it get sucked in the tranny. Check this out, it will be of interest.

you get it at www.erlandsonperformance.com
It is about $25. It mainly makes the belt last longer, but it improves takeoff just a touch by lowering the gear ratio at takeoff. Top speed is not affected.
My website has tech tips on how to install it and stuff.

I have made an airbox for the intake. It uses a uni universal clamp on. I dont want to let the hole idea out as of yet as i have been thinking of patending the idea. It took me a while to get it right. I had to measure the air vacuum in the intake to make sure it wasnt restrictive. It was also tested after a seriously dusty ride to make sure that even with a dirty filter the flow was correct. I have it figured out how to change the filter easily or atleast with out removing the plastic. Also added a splash sheild so if yah get a small bit of water in it it doesnt go into the clutch housing. It also has a drain plug to release water that is trapped under the splash sheild. The only thing i have yet to get perfect in my mind is the materials to make it of so it is light weight and durable. I would put it in porduction myself but it is just alot more money than i have to get somthing of this nature started. I was thinking that after i get it patended i could sell the idea to some after market company. But at the same time thats alot of money to. Patents are not cheap. Maybe i could be nice and just give you guys the idea or possibly even build some and sell them myself. I normally wouldnt be like this but after having back probs and not being able to get a job because of it i need a way to get an income coming in.
