I'll "butt-in" here. (Sorry Master nyroc). I did the same mod. used a 10in. drill bit from work. An 8in. one will probably work, too. Good luck!

I used a 12" one.

Trx450, I could have sworn that my 12" drill was just barely long enough to get through the last baffle. I seem to remember drilling steel within the last 1/2" of the 12" long drill bit, and I had drill bit in the chuck as far out as I dared to put it (not all the way in).

When i did the nyroc mod i didn't have a long bit. I checked with our millwright and he said he would build me one. Well bless my a$$, this drill bit is about 18" long. It works great for those of us that dont like to get too close to their work. man you start drilling and walk on your knees toward the quad.

The one I made was 20 inches long. Did the trick just fine.

I used a 12" bit from Home Depot for $15. For $15 versus $250-$500 the mod is worth it. when I completed the mod and tested it, with no black spring, I just about went over backwards and scared the S@#% out of me.

Thanks, mudhound. I am looking forward to doing this. I didnt think it would be that difficult to cut the end of the pipe off. I dont have access to an air powered cut off wheel, so I started using my dremel tool with a heavy duty wheel and it ate up the wheels.

JJS, if you use a Dremel, buy the fiberglass reinforced cut off wheels. They work pretty well. I didn't use a Dremel on my muffler, but I have used the reinforced cut off wheels on other jobs and they have done well.

JJS, sorry to post again, but if you have a mini grinder, I.E. a makita 5" grinder, use a zipcut wheel. They are only 3/64 of an inch thick and they will cut through your muffler like nothing. Cut right through the middle of the weld on the back end of the muffler, that way, when you weld it back together, no one will ever know you cut it apart (except for the cool sound it will now make!!!!!!!!!).
