Default A little advice..

Well guys, I wondered if I could get some feedback from some fellah's that may be in the know on this one. I went for a 3 hour or so ride yesterday in the snow drifts. Had no troubles whatsoever, the Kawi ran great. I parked it in my garage last night which has no heat, and came out this morning, and the transmission seems to be seized up pretty good. I haven't taken the cover off the belt to peek at it yet, seeing that its too damn cold out there at the moment for me to get down and dirty on the floor. The wheels will roll about a 1/4 turn back and forth, but then it stops dead. The engine is running great,no problems there,so I'm guessing that the tranny is fused. It may be iced up in there after it cooled down and sat over night, but I'm haveing nightmares about a shredded belt. Anyone gone thru this with thier Prairie's? Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks alot in advance.

Is the Tranny in neutral? If not then this sounds normal.

Just a guess, but if you were butting snow drifts, maybe you sucked snow in the vent to the clutches. If so, it melted to water then froze in the night. I doubt if your belt is damaged, maybe your clutch can only turn so far before hitting the ice.

Again just a guess, but 5 minutes and a 10mm socket will tell you.

good luck. Let us know when you find out.

Just plowed with mine, when I was done you couldn't see the front brake caliper or the inside of the front wheel due to the slush buildup. If I hadn't cleaned it out, it would have been seized the next time I tried to move it.

Scott:

How much snow will the 650 push?
Do you need added weight?

that's a good though about the brakes.

Shotgun - we had a foot of heavy, wind driven snow. The drifts were up to 2 feet deep. My 4 foot plow does a good job, I throw 50lbs on the back to off-set the weight of the plow. The 650 has no lack of power for plowing, but some weight on the back and good tires help. My Blackwaters aren't much good for plowing, not enough biting edges or enough rubber touching the ground. A stock style tire does better for plowing.

Well, I figured it out, Nova hit it on the head. The packed snow froze up in the front calipers and locked them up tight. Good thing to keep your eye on if your busting deep drifts.

And Metalikev, two words....bite me. Who else had a kerosene heater cooking near his quad earlier today? Thats what I thought....
