Ummm.. not sure about the 3 mile thing... I know when I got mine it was completely dry of fluids... I checked the oil dipstick when it was sticking on the showroom floor and there wasn't a drop of anything in it... Didn't have any fluids in it at all. They rolled it to the back and put the fluids in.. They then rode it around the parking lot and checked the fluids and I checked the ODO.. didn't show any hours of miles on it.. So don't know about that... wasn't the case with mine.

they said that they dont do any test rides. They only have a small parking lot, and no grass or place TO test ride really. They claim that those miles are all taking it back and forth. Thats a lot of back and forth. Oh well I'm sure(hoping) that they didn't hotrod it around or anything. I spoke with the owner of the dealership about it and he said oh definitely not, he is around and watches every time the bikes are moved in and out and they aren't taken over 5mph. I've known a lot of ppl locally that have done business with this dealer over the years and have heard 100% good things , which is rare. Plus one of my best friends has been sponsored by him for years racing, and he set me up with him and the deal. Anyway, all that aside, I was still a little suspicious about the 6 miles. Who knows. :-)

my 03 smoked for a bit too when i first rode it. the factory definitely sprays something on the engine area, probably to prohibit rust while waiting to be sold to dealers. went away after a few hours. also, about the mileage. that is bs. mine had 0 miles and 0 hours on it when i picked it up. one of the first 03's to be had by my dealer. i asked him and he said they dont test ride anything at the factory and the miles you have are probably from the employees riding on dealer property. i wouldn't worry too much though, these machines can take a hell of a beating. the shifting problem is also normal with my quad. sometimes i have to blip the throttle to get the tranny to engage fully. i will be getting the black spring and adjust my belt to correct that problem. in any event, you will love this thing. unfortunately, being in florida, you probably wont be playing in any snow. by far, the most fun to be had. especially when plowing. good luck with your machine, you wont regret the purchase.

Before i even loaded my Prairie the dealer fired it up and let it rev for a few minutes, the smoke was just rolling off. He said that the paint around engine was burning off. I 've got around 300 miles and mine and i love it. Nothing has gone wrong with it, but the belt is bginning to chirp alittle when you take off.

Lightman,
Are you trying to start it with the choke on every time you start it? Even after it has warmed up? You should only have to choke it when you first start it and then if you let it set for a while it should still start up without the choke on you don't need to choke it ever time. Even if it sets for an hour the engine should still be warm enough to start with out choke. I don't own a P650 but this is typical with all quads I have been around.

Bodyman,
What is deflection?

Do yourself a favor and install the black driven spring asap and adjust your belt. I checked mine after only 62 miles and it had nearly 1.5" of deflection. Nyroc has lots of good advice on his website about this and other 650 topics.
Do you guys think it will be necessary to put the black driven spring on the V-force also? I am think about getting the V-force but am a little leery of 1st year bikes.

JSact, no I wasn't trying to start it with the choke on while the engine was hot. I've had plenty of motorized toys and know better than that.

Anyway fellas, spoke with the tech at the dealer today, and he confirmed this. He actually said the name of the chemical they put on it that was burning off, and said every one does it. Didn't even smoke or smell a bit today, so problem solved.

Secondly, the shifting problem, and the starting problem, as some thought and posted, was entirely due to the idle being turned out way too far. It simply wouldn't idle. I got it running and kept turning in the idle adjustment until it would idle steadily on its own. This morning when I went to start it, pulled the choke, voila! started right up. Now that the idle is high enough, no blip required, shifts easily into all gears.

I love it!! Rode in the big cypress indian reserve in the everglades today, awesome!!

jcsact,
Deflection is the lenth of travel the belt can manage toward the opposing side of the belt half way between pulleys. (Also applys to chains, timing belts ect.) Nyroc has a good picture of belt deflection inspection on his site.

Thanks Bodyman,
I ended up doing a little research on nyroc's site very informative site he has there.

I am in the middle of a decision of what 4-wheeler I am going to buy next. I am wanting something on the sportier side but I don't know if I want to give up the 4wd. I have read many reviews on the P650 and they all give it a big thumbs up on the sporty feel. Another thing is I have been use to throwing my Wolverine around on the trails I just don't know if I would like lugging that big monster around everywhere.

And then there is the V-force!!! Man, that thing has my attention, but i just don't know the 1st year bike kind of scare me if you know what i mean.
