I saw somebody else here that had a Garmin Etrex Legend. I got the same one for Christmas, anybody have one mounted on their bike? How did you mount it, and does it get the snot vibrated out of it? I would like to use mine four wheeling, but dont want to hold it in my hand. Thanks.

This is what I have my Legend mounted with: Ram Mounts .

It is mounted on the plastic just above the seat (where the fuel tank is on other machines). I took the top/tank piece off (the access lid for the airbox), drilled the four holes in it for the base of the mount. Then, I put it back on. I don't have my digital camera tonight, or I would shoot you a pic...but you get the idea.

Cool stuff. Spend some time with that Legend. It does alot. I have mapped my entire property, set waypoints for the house, etc. On a long ride in unfamiliar territory, you can use the TRACKS feature, and not worry about getting lost.

I love mine! Compact, and very sturdy.

Enjoy!

Thanks, that looks like what I need. Some pics of your setup would be awesome. I just have a gas tank right there and dont know if it will fit.

I love the GPS, got it in Illinois and used it all the way home. The wife teases me that I cant leave the house now without it. I love the tracking feature, I can walk around the front yard and follow the same path back, its that accurate. I bought the cigarette lighter cord for it so now I just have to mount it and im all set. Thanks!

Check this out GeoCaching a very fun sport. Basically, people hide "caches" (Treasures) (Geo=Earth, Cach=Treasure) and you use your GPS to find them. On the homepage, top right, you can put in your zip code to find the closest caches. They are ranked according to terrain and difficulty of the hide. Very very fun stuff! A D D I C T I V E ! ! ! LOL

There is a "discuss geocaching" tab, and that is basically a forum.

Enjoy, let me know what you think!

I believe they make a "bicycle" mount for the etrex line..... I have heard of people using that for their mounts.

Don't know how well it works, but I'm sure it should be able to hold up.

Thanks, That Caching looks pretty cool. My in laws live out in the sticks, I could hide some that nobody would ever look for probably. Thats neat stuff.
I found a few bar mounts, maybe I can get the one with the short stem and get it to sit next to my guages, I think I will try that. Thanks guys.

Hey guys
Have used gps for years and think there the greatest thing to go out into the bush with, but i still believe that a guy is only having half the fun untill he gets the ozi explorer program for his computer.I wished i had got it when i first got my gps, i just think of the places i have been with sled and quad. With out the program you cant save all of those waypoints , tracks, routes. With the program, years from now you will have excess to all of that info. You can make a map of all of your travels.

Sroll to the bottom of This page, you will see the handlebar mount made specially for the Legend. $14.95. Cheap!

Also, Cabela's has Topo 4.0 that you can put on your computer to see where you are going, where you have been, save tracks, etc. And, it is 3 dimensional.

Enjoy!
