I just put a hmf exhaust, k&n filter and snorkel on my prairie. I bought the jet that came with the exhaust which was a 142 and instructions said to move rear jet into front carb and put new jet in the rear carb. Well upon tearing into the carbs the rear jet already had a 142 and the front a 138. I was under the impresion it was not good to run the same jets in both carbs I have been on Nyrocs page and looked at jetting but mine is right in the ballpark Only problem though is around 7 mph or under it spits out the carbs. It did this before mods and i feel it is lean would the air/mixture screw fix this or do i need to rejet?Feedback would be great!!!!

You have 2 choices, 1) call hmf and ask them to forward you a 145 jet or exchange it. 2) pop down to your local dealer for $5 bucks pick up a 145 jet. You are right you should have different jets for the motor. If they are the same you run the risk of over heating one of the cylinders causing major problems down the line.

Here is the funny thing I called HMF and the rep there said to go ahead and put in the 142. He sais it would make that much difference sometimes they run out and send a different jet. The my question is WHY JET IT IF IT DOESN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Ok i know it makes a difference because i have jetted other wheelers before but just wanted some feedback on the prairie I'm thinking of leaving the jets the way they are and playing with the mixture screws. I wish it would warm up above 30 degrees so i could put more than a few minutes on the machine without being frozen.

You will need to jet, just get the right one. HMF didn't do themselves or you any favors; they should have taken a couple bux off the price of the package and instructed you to go to a dealer for the jet. The jets won't affect your low speed problems, though. Richen up the pilot jets and that will reduce the low speed spitting. It's a 1 minute job; it almost takes longer to say it than do it.

Best advice, do the jet to 145. Sure it runs fine with the cooler weather as the cooler it is the richer it becomes, once it warms up it will lean your machine and you will have cooling problems with respect to being to hot with a lean cylinder. The rear cylinder will always be hotter talk to Harley guys and ask them why they jet higher its not because they want to. Its your machine and you are the boss you must realize we have nothing to gain at your exspense.
