Default Trim and Jetting

First question...has anyone gotten rid of the black trim on the p650...if so your thoughts. Most of the used P650 (people own or the dealer is selling used) I run across seemed to have cracked or ripped black plastic and it distracts from the bike ever so slightly. In this months issue of dirtwheels i seen another high performance p650 (this one is actually a p800) and they have totally removed it with slight trimming to keep the section by the foot guards...noticed penlands machine is done the same way. Does this plastic do anything like help protect against rocks or mud coming up...if not i believe i am going to remove and trim mine...guess i can always replace if it becomes an issue.

Second, I am at about 5600 feet elevation ( ogden, Utah) and put the snorkel and black spring on. Getting ready to rejet as the machine is running a little lean...going with the 142f - 145b combination as someone outlined on NYROCs site. Believe the dealer put 134f-138b when i got it...need to pull and confirm. Anyone else at a similiar elevation with a snorkel or air box mod...if so what jets are you running and how is the quad doing. Thought about adjusting the screw to resolve problem...but would like to pick up a little low end with the jetting if possible...am i off the beaten path with that thought...any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated. NYROC...for your exhaust mod...you cut the cap of the back of the muffler no doubt...how do you fasten it back on...weld...i know that might seem like commen sense but hoping there is an alternative as i dont have the welding cabilities.

Third and last comment...Talk to your friend and cohorts and if they are going to buy a prairie give them some insight. Went to a dealer yesterday and there was a used prairie sitting their...400 miles...quad looked like it had 40,000 miles on it...plastic ripped up and gouged...gauges scratched up...dirty and under belly showing its wear....curiosity got the best of me so i asked about it...he told me "6200 but i can let it go for $6000". I told him that I bought mine brand new for 6200 ... he said yea i can sell you a new one for 6500 if you need another. I looked at him and said brand new for 6500...you will never sell this used one...he smiled and said, oh yes we will...havent kept a used one on the lot for over a month yet...and they have all sold for 6k or above. I quess 500$ bucks is $500 bucks and could go to mods...but piece of mind and ego ( i quess ) would have me pay the little extra for a new...others thoughts.

Other interesting points brought up... that since the Z400 hit they havent been able to give away the Honda 400 EXs...Ricons started of selling decently but sales have dropped of in the area dramatically (says the magazines reviews didnt help) ... and they have talked with the regional director from Kawi and he said that all the hype on the V-Force doesnt do it justice....they surveyed 10 racers around one of their major dealerships to see if they would ride an automatic sport bike...all said no....they gave all 10 a two day test ride on the circuit track in the area. Kawi then surveyed them and asked if they would not only ride a v-force but would they buy one....supposedly 82% said most definitely buy one (dont know how they got 82% surveying 10 riders). Anyway, this isnt proven fact...just info passed on to the local Kawi dealer who is tight with the Kawi's regional director...pretty sure they are tight as he informed me about the V-Force before it was even commen knowledge...even asked me if i would be surprized to see a big bore automatic sport bike...I didnt put much stock in the conversation back then. Anyway just little tidbits of information...had a new red 03 p650 with 27 mud-lites (i think) and ITP billets in the show room...quad looked awesome...now i have to get some...jets, progressive shocks, ITP rims and CDI...then i will be done right?

138 - 142 (factory original settings for sea level) may supply enough fuel at your elevation, the 142 - 145 may be good too. You'll just have to pick a combo and try it.

I got them from a Canadian supplier. I believe you can buy them direct from Prog. Susp. - $179 sounds about right. Check on E-bay too, you might get a deal.
