Default What does this do for a winch, automatic load-holding brake

My Ramsey 2500 Stopped working this weekend while it was pulling it self out of a snow drift. I was looking through there web site and I can not find a good description or any benifits of having one it just says "for strengh". What does it do exactly. I am sending it back to the company tomarrow to have them look at it. It should be under warrenty I will keep you posted on the repiars.

Any way do you think that the "automatic load-holding brake" nit is opptional would help out???? Thank for any info.

I think the brake on the winch is for if you let off the button while pulling it hold its load and doesn't freespool back until there isn't any pressure on the cable

The only difference between the Warn 2000lb and 2500lb is that the 2500 has a brake. Same motor and gearbox. Maybe above 2000lbs the winch can't stop from freespooling and has to have a brake for a higher rating.
