Maybe putting the '02 CDI on the '03 will be a matter of just joining/changing a couple of wires. Dogman may be able to convert.

 

Does one of the plugs on the 03 only have 3 wires and the other 12 wires are the same as the 02 on two plugs?

 

aren't there 2 boxes on the 650? one in the back by the seat and the other in the middle of the seat.

Yes there are several boxes and relays boxes, your probably thinking like me that they combined two..

 

cueball: the bigger box is the CDI the littler one is the 4x4 actuator i think

 

On the 02, one is the controller and the bigger one in the rear is the ignitor

 

On the '02 650, the smaller plug connector has 3 of the 4 same color-coded wires as the smallest plug connector on the '03.
On the '03 650, the 2 other plug connectors consist of a 5 wire connector,a 6 wire connector & a 4 Wire connector.
The Y/R wire that is the #4 wire on the '02 650 & on the smallest plug connector is located in the 5 wire connector on the '03 650.

 

Well for all you 03 owners you can breath a sigh of relief.
