Hello, I am so embarassed I rode this 88 mojave in high school 10 years ago and unfortunately it sat for almost 7 years as I went through pharmacy school and while I started my career. Last weekend I went to my parents house and picked up the old beast. Through the years the owners manual has been lost and until the repair manual shows up I had a few questions. The silliest thing is that in the 5 years I rode the machine I never had any reason to remove the seat or plastic for any reason. As I start the restoration process I was trying to remove the seat and rear fenders but I cant get the damn things off. Please help if you can sorry I am such an idiot you would think they would teach us easy stuff like that in pharmacy school . 2nd I was wondering if anyone has had trouble with reverse the transmission doesnt seem to engage it properly any suggestions would be appreciated sorry to ramble on ........

Thanks,
Triston

I had a Mojave in the past (6 years) but I forget how the fender seat combo comes off. But, I just bought my wife a Y2K Lakota (based on same quad) and the the two front grab bar/rack bolts remove the Lakota's fenders/seat, also there are a bolt in each side of the rear fender. Plus, look in the storage area behind the seat, it has to bolts(yeah Kawasaki uses a bunch of bolts).

If you already ordered the owners manual disregard this message. Go to Ebay and you can get the owners manual for an 87 for like $5.00 if it is still there. I saw it about a week ago while trying to find some pictures of the older Mojaves and Tecates.

Besides the obvious screws on the fenders there are to bungees that rap around the chrome grab bar under the storage compartment. Then look for 4 nuts in front of those bungees and under the seat that bolt to the fender support brackets. If you don't understand just look under the seat it's pretty obvious. The reverse probably just needs a little cleaning. There is a cover in front of the drive sprocket, wherethe little red shift indicator is. Follow the reverse cable to where it goes into the engine. Take this cover off and clean the little arm and asorted parts found in there. Also lube the cable and make sure it works freely. Any other questions post them here. Good luck

Hey thanks for the input guys!
Damn, I finally found the last 2 bolts they were pretty well hidden and real knuckle skinners but I was successful in getting the plastic off! Jeff I will follow your advice re: the reverse and I will report back. What does everyone recommend for an aftermarket pipe for the mojave ? Have a good week !

This response might sound even more silly than your initial request. But, are you still aware how to engage the reverse gear on the bike? Remember you must be in 1st gear, then twist the reverse **** (and hold), then press down again on the gear selector then release the ****.

I had problems with mine after it sat for quite some time, just took some WD40 down the clutch cable and once the bike warmed up, she slipped right in [no pun intended].

Deffinetly the Supertrapp IDS. You can buy just the muffler and skip the head pipe because its no bigger then the stock pipe. A little trick I did with those rear seat/fender mounting bolts was drill the holes out in the steel fender bracket bigger then the nuts(1/2"). Then reinstall the nuts, this will keep the seat bolted to the plastic but not the fender bracket. Why do this? Now I remove 2 bungees and the 2 screws above the tires and the fenders are off. I'm glad I can help.

93 Mojave: Ported head, Wiseco 11.5:1 piston, SupertrappIDS, Black box mod., Bandits w/ .190 Douglas rims, Renthal bars, PRM skids.

Well i have a 95 Mojave 250 and i put a Cobra exhaust on it and it has done great with it. I know cobra is isn't the first words that come in your mind when you think of exhaust for mojave but it really gives it a lot more horsepower. Also about the reverse instead of worring about that **** i just had someone put my reverse in the gears and it has worked out great because now all i got to do is shift down twice and i am in reverse it has worked out so much better that way so if i were you and have trouble with the **** then get your reverse in the gears.

How do they put "it in the gears" what does it cost sounds like a good idea to me. Starting the restoration process just got the shop manual so I am sure I will be posting a lot of questions soon. I thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. Have a great week !!
