Default tires for new 650??

Hey there! I'm a couple of weeks away from picking up my 03' prairie 650 and I'm in a tire dilema!! it has basically came down to weight of the tires now, but it's difficult to decide when every website posts different weights for the same tire!! I've been running 25" goodyear mudrunners on my vinson but I would like to try the new mudzilla or itp 589 tires. can anyone help me out on this subject as to the true weight of these tires and which are the best all around!!

thanks, brownstr

Mudzillas are far better in the mud that 589's. That is about it. Their weight causes a sliding, jumping, and handling reduction. Heavy tires make a 650 seem like a Polaris 700, reduced agaility, slower movements.

I have 28" mudzillas, but I put the 26" mudrunners on for most rides, and get the zillas out for the gushiest, gooiest rides.

There have been shootouts, and other people may prefer vamps or outlaws. It appears that zillas are the best "all around" performing aggressive mud tire. The vamps might actually be better for the worst mud, but the zillas handle and ride a bit better than laws and vamps on the way to the pit.

Yeah, I love my zillas. I am selling my 28x8-12 to get 28x12-12 for the rear (moving my 28x10-12 to the front). The wider the better.

I would probably get the ITP mudlite for all around riding if I had to choose again, but the zillas are great for a really muddy ride like the salamanca NY ride.

Default tires for new 650??

thanks for the advice nyroc! I find that me and the guys that I ride with are on trail more than in mud so I may just stick with my mudrunners! possibly go to 26". I find that these work very well on all terrain and I can go more places than my buddy who has mud bugs. do I need to change anything wheel wise if I go to a 26" ??

Default tires for new 650??

When I made the purchase of my P650, I traded my new Dunlop tires towards new ITP Mudlites in 26" size. I've only had my quad for a week now, but they've perform great in the snow and I assume that they will be just as good in the mud. My buddy as a P650 with stock Dunlops, and I like the feel and handling of my Mudlites way better. According to the ITP website, the Mudlites are the lightest 6 ply tires on the market.

No, you don't need to do anything to the 650 for almost any size tire, just 28" outlaws have tank clearance probs without spacing.

One thing I do know is that mudrunners actually lean toward mud a bit, and allow wheel spin on dry a little more than some of the others. They my be a bit better in mud than mudlites.

Another thing is that the mudlites are very wide in front, which may give you better floatation in the snow. If you dig down, you get stuck. If you stay on top you move.

The mudrunner front tires are lighter than mudlite fronts (but much narrower). The mudrunner rears are a few pounds heavier than the mudlite rears (and they are super wide). The mudrunners may be very close in weight to the mudlite.

yes, I've heard good things about the itp mudlites also. one thing I did find out is that you gain more tread depth when you go to 26" rather than the 25" and seeing as they are quite light it looks like you made a good choice kawidan! I'm also considering the 26" mudlites. did you keep the stock rims on your camo or did you go with itp wheels? I have the itp c series on my 02' vinson but I like the look of the bronze rims on the 03' and I'd like to keep those on. also do you find that you lose any speed or power compared to your buddy's stock dunlops??

I have the 26" mudrunners and really like them. My only regret is I didn't go with 27's. A little more ground clearance and they weigh about the same.

Very little if any. What little power loss there is is more then made up for in the improved handling over stockers.
