pre-production vs. aftermarket CDI
#3
"2Wolfman" stated in an earlier post that his magic box was designed and will outperform the first box Kaw made"the pre-production" one that was detuned twice before the 650's were released. so if should be awesome, 93 octane WILL be required with the new box, Oh well, 20 cent's more per gallon is a good trade-off for the performance that will be gained........

will the CDI be plug and play or not. So can I run my main CDI box when I'm running with hondas and switch it so I can out run raptors? I'm thinking of wiring mine on a switch? Or do you need to rejet etc...

He told me in a e-mail a few month's ago that Re-jetting is NOT required but will help slightly, It won't make the 650 run to lean, it's just the timing on them stock is so retarded that 87 run's fine in then, When we go from 28 degree's retard to 32 degree's advance, 87 will detonate and ping to much, He assured me that race gas won't be nessessary, A good brand of 93 will work well, If some of you guy's have a little pinging after you get the box with 93, fine tuning the jetting should take care of it, I've had bikes before do it before with 93, and leaning it out just slightly took care of it, Im going to try to call him in the next week or two and see where the company that he has making them is timewise on his order, I think he order'ed 1000 of them......

Oh yeah, before I forget, It is a plug and go, I don't know how the stock one is mounted so it be as simple as unplugging the stock on and getting it out and the new one goes right back in it's place, even if it has some mounting screws that are hard to get to, I should'nt take over 15 minute's to change out.....

How's it going Kawi650, when we get the boxes in, everyone just try the highest octane you have in your area, 91 or 92 may work fine I have ran some brands of gas in my truck at 93 here where i live, and still the valves would rattle, and another brand of 89 didn't rattle a bit, the lower octane gas I used that ran better than the 93 i used was Amoco, I think Amoco is the best quality gas here in Tn, I know in the northern US There are alot of Sunoco station's that have 94 octane, anyway the guy that owns the Amoco station told me that the number's on the pumps(87, 93, 92) whatever are just the lowest octane rating that that pump MUST meet in order to pass the test's when the inspector's come to test them, If they are not at least the number on the pump the stations and wholesaler's get into trouble and can even be fined so, they make sure that the octane is a little higher than on the pump's to avoid trouble with the inspector's, and they never know when they are coming so they have to keep the gas quality pretty tight, he told me Amoco gas is uasually 3-4 points higher than what is on the pumps so Amoco 93 is usually about 96 octane, If you get pinging with the gas in your area, just use a small amount of octane boost that you can buy at places like Wal-Mart, it isn't to expensive, sorry for the long post, hope it set's everyone's mind at ease.....
