Boy that sure would be nice to find a better belt for the 650. I am on my 3 rd belt already and almost time for a new one. I never replaced my springs though. I wonder if a clutch kit helps on belt wear? Hopefully someday somebody will come out with an aftermarket belt cheaper than Kawasaki

Kawasaki did this to us on purpose. They made the belt narrow so it wouldn't ever last long enough to get old and cause safety issues.
Keeping the belt tight and using the black spring makes the belt last a long time. The belt needs to be at the low end of the spec in order for this to work. Also, drive in low whenever you don't need to go fast.
Some of the high mileage drivers claim 2000+ miles on a belt with proper belt care. Therefore, there for those who take the best care of their belt. There is little need for a better belt.

I am one of the one's Nyroc is talking about, I got almost 2000 miles out of my stock belt just by keeping it tight and riding in low most of the time, I now have the EPI red/black spring combo and have put about 300 miles on this new one and the deflection is staying right on, I put it on with no shim's in the rear clutch and it chirped pretty bad when in gear. I put the thinnest in 0.6mm and it stopped the chirping deflection was right in between the middle and highest spec, ran for 275-300 miles, thinking it had done it's break in stretch by now, I removed the shim and ran it without it again, the chirping in gear came back so that tells me it's wearing well, I really need a 0.3mm shim. to completely get it in the low end of spec and to stop the chirping in gear, but I will just leave it alone and shift to neutral when I stop......I want to try the V-Force belt as soon as It is available........

I took all my shims out and ran it without shims from the start. It still chirps at idle, but not bad now after 700 miles.
I love it. It grips super tight, even with 28" mudzillas while stuck in a hole, the belt never slips.
Seems like it is not wearing fast at all.

I have my P650 in the shop right now, it might be getting a new balt, I'm not sure yet. My mechanic said he wants to clean the clutches and see if it really needs a new belt. If it does, I might put a P360 or KFX700 belt on it. I have the black spring, had the yellow drive spring in but I couldn't tow my mover efficently so i took it out. I took all the shims out of the clutch at about 500 miles. Oh yeah, I have 1800 miles and over 240 hard hours on my original belt.

Couple of tricks to getting better belt life, this goes for all belt drive ATV's, snowmobiles ect.
1) When it is new scrub the belt with a strong detergent, scrub untill the cords are natural colar, usually light yellow.
2) Install and adjust for deflection
3) Break it in for 100 miles
4) remove the belt and scrub again
5) re adjust deflection
6) drive in low gear as much as possible
Belt life will increase substantially

I don't know about you guys, but my quad only goes about 10 mph faster in high range than in low range, I use low range most all of the time... I currently have 1200 very hard miles of racing, mud bogging, & pulling around heavy farm equipment & hard trail use... my belt is due for replacing very soon, as I've lost a few mph from when it was fresh...I'm going to install a 360 belt in when I do replace mine ( although they are much more expensive than even the 650 belt is ) ... I've never replaced the springs, never run my belt extra tight, & most of the miles on my quad were with 26" mud runner tires... I'd put a 700 belt on, if I could look at one 1st, but my dealer refuses to stock one, as he only sold a few 700's... I find it difficult to believe that the 360's belt being a few thousanths thicker could make 2-3 mph difference over the 650 belt, but my "old" belt is only a few thousanths thinner than it was new, & I've lost that 3-4 mph top speed from new...Have A Good One ...WAM
