Default MPG- KFX700 vs Raptor?

Why does the KFX700(approx 12-13 MPG) get such bad gas mileage compared to the Raptor(approx 20+ MPG). They both have roughly the same cc's. The only difference I can see is the Raptor is about 100 pounds lighter and has a manual tranny. The MPG estimates were taken out of various forums. Any ideas?

The variable tranny keeps the revs up constantly, therefor using more fuel.

From my experience, I have never seen a Raptor get 20 mpg. It was usually about 15 mpg on a tank of easy riding. For comparison, the Polaris 700 does not get that great of gas mileage either. It's really lucky if it gets 15 mpg! On the other hand, when riding my DS650 easy, I managed nearly 26 mpg! I really wonder what could cause such a huge difference in mileage between comparable machines??

The kind of trail riding we do.. The 12-13 mph for the KFX is about right .... running side by side with My Buddy's rappy,
He does better, about 17-18 mpg . If you put him where he could get 20+ mph.... the KFX would do proportionally
better also.

The reason....I think it is a combination of it being Automatic, weighing more, and more CC's.

I've had a raptor for 2 years now and I get 25-30 MPG constantly riding hard. The V force is de-tuned so much and auto tranny with high operating RPM makes milage very poor. Just look at the milage on the road bikes, way higher. Kawi messed up this bike. I wanted to purchase a V force myself until I found out what the milage was.
