Default predator 90 rear shock problem

I have had my sons pred 90 in the shop twice, because the muffler keeps hitting the brackets on the rear axle and bending the chain adjuster to the point it snaps, I've adjusted the shock as stiff as possible but it still hits, anybody else have this problem or is my kid too rough a rider?

Just checked out your pics, with your son catching that much air, it just might be that he's a little rough on it. Check around, some people were talking about aftermarket shocks for kids quads, stiffer for larger/rougher riding kids. Good luck!

I might get a works rear shock from hetrick racing, it'll set me back 200 bucks but that might be worth it, I'm just "shocked" (pun intended) that the stock rear shock won't stiffen up enough to keep the muffler from hitting the swingarm, also I had to put a new chain on because when he lands it streches beyond specs, I like the looks of the Predator but as for as durability I wish I had bought a honda trx 90.

just put the works rear shock on and it solved the problem, I must of had a defected stock shock, Joshua says he notices a huge difference in comfort, now he wants a new pipe, it never ends!!

Seems that you didn't get the only defective shock. My nephew has one that throws the chain upon landing and withan adult onboard it throws the chain in corners.might have to try a new shock also.

throwing the chain most likely isn't caused by the shock, your chain is probably too loose.the geometry on this bike allows the chain to become looser as the shock is compressed, thats why they owners manual tells you to compress the shock with a strap before tightening the chain...the extra weight of an adult compresses the shock more therefore loosening the chain.

hey mod81, are you positive that the chain loosens with the rider on it?because mine is doing the opposite, it tightens with the shock compressed and loosens when it's not. which would add to the growing list of problems I am having,

yes i'm positive it loosens as the suspension is compressed.look at the owners manual for exact instructions on chain tensioning.i know the shocks will bottom out but if the chain is tensioned properly it will not come off.hp design makes a bolt on spring loaded chain tensioner to help as well.
