Predator 90 cdi box
#13
Guys,
I bought the last CDI off of EBAY the guy has, this is the same one scrambler50 has been talking about.
I think it is a 2001 scrambler cdi
Part#30410-152-000
Package 0450722
I have read forums were guys have had trouble installing these things, but if you disconnect your battery before making changes
you shouldn't have problems from things arcing etc.
I understand the green wire should be cut, now is there a grey wire you do not connect
Just want to make sure I dont screw something up!
Any input is appreciated Scrambler 50 or anyone else!
Can't want for some snow to play in

I'm at work right now, so I don't have the specifics of how I wired it up.. but the green wire you cut to let it rev wied open (I just taped the ends up). The grey wire from the throttle control in the wiring harness is left disconnected with this new CDI. The big plug plugs into the o plug on the CDI.. the other 3 wires I don't remember how they hook up... on wire will only hook up to the corresponding wires on the CDI box, and then there are 2 left... try them one way.. if it won't work, try the other way (I don't think the colors matched between the harness and the CDI).

You need to get a CDI from an earlier model sportsman or scrambler 2001 or older, then yes you just cut the green wire.
There 100 bucks from the dealer use the part number list earlier in this forum. If your lucky you can get one from ebay.
What this does is lets the motor go from approx. 7200 rpm to 9200, you will not have a rev problem. This takes a whole 5 minutes to swap out.
This allows your 2 stroke to run the higher revs were it likes to. The next step is a pipe and re-jetting, then sproket and clutch tweaking if you like.
Good Luck

jr13,
Wanna make sure I'm looking for the right p/n for the CDI. I've seen a 0450722 for the 2001 Sportsman 90 and a 0450975 for the 2001 Scrambler 50. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm looking for the easiest swap that will free up the revs - no wiring harness changes, etc., if possible.
Also, is the installation just unhook the battery and connect the wires? Anything I could permanently mess up?
Thanks for your help,
Brian
