I am looking for an atv for my son. He is 9 years old and weights about 87lbs. and is about 4ft5inchs. I am, not sure whether to get a 50cc or 80cc. He has never rode an atv before.

 

80 without a doubt. You can search around in here and read some debates between the two. The atv makers seem pressured to put ficticious age recommendations on these youth atv's. My eight year-old daughter has a 90 predator and fits like a glove. She's about 4 ft. tall and 70 lbs. This is her first one. It has the thumb throttle limiter which helps a bunch. Take him to sit on, or even better, ride a few.

I'm one who generally says get a 50cc, but that's in response to people looking for their 4-6 year olds. In this case, I'm with bigcreek,either a 80 or 90cc.

 

Go for the AlphaSports Cobra 90. great machine. My kids love it.
