04 Predator 90cc - Chain Tensioner
#1
Hello
My son has a 04 Predator 90 - It has a chain tensioner. Should the guide wheel spin free. I just check ours, and it does not move, with it being a roller, I think it should. I washed the quad earlier in the week when it was mild, now it is 15 below. Perhaps it is frozen ?? Any help would be great.
Thanks.....

The Predator tensioner I put on my Eton does roll. Of course now it sqeaks a lot and requires oiling frequently. For those that don't know it does not have a bearing as far as I can tell. So when it finally wears out I'll replace the roller with an actual bearing type roller.

YES - all chain tensioners should roll. If they don't roll smoothly, the chain will make an immediate flat spot on its "usual" hard plastic roller. If it's frozen, take the wife's hair dryer, set it on medium heat and position it to blow onto the roller axle area. You may have to leave it a few hours to thaw out. Don't use "extreme or high" heat settings because it could soften the roller. Then, use lots of door lock deicer or gasline antifreeze to flush out any moister. This liquid could even unthaw the roller without using the wife's hair dryer. In the extreme cold season, use WD-40 or other thin oils. Above freezing, switch into the heavier thicker oils. In the hot summer, use grease. I like using wheel bearing grease on our Pred-90 for stuff like this. This grease repels the water better then others. Also, don't forget to put the wife's hair dryer back. Sometimes, they get upset when they can't find "their tools".
Hope this helps...
