Is a Predator 90 appropriate?

Sounds like good fun to me. One other safety item you might want to check into since your son is on the small side is a neck brace. When my boy was riding a dirtbike I got him one. It kinda supports the weight of the helmet while their riding, and if they happen to wipe out it really helps to minimize neck injury.

hockeymom,
Since each of you plan to have your own machines, you may also want to investigate the usage of wireless communications. If each of you had a helmet attached unit, each of you can "chit chat" back and forth while on your family rides. For more details, surf:

Hope this helps as well...
