Detailed directions for removing Pred. 90 oil injection set-up??
#1
I want to remove our 2004 Prd. 90's oil injection set-up and start mixing. I did a search and have gotten some good info but it's bits and pieces here and there. Sometime back I read a nice DETAILED artical on how to do this but can't find it now. Anyone have detailed instructions/pics or a link to help me out? Thanks!

Just remove the fan, magneto and stator. You'll need a steering wheel or magneto puller. There are two screws holding the oil pump on. Take them off, pull the pump out and the drive gear will fall off the back. I put the pump back in to close the hole and cut then stuck a screw in each hose and rapped with black tape.
Some people just block the tubes but I was worried about the pump freezing and eating the drive gear. Your call.
I also put on a 20mm Keihin, which I highly recommend. But if you don't, see about getting a different throttle cable as I've heard they can stick without the pull of the spring. Also, you'll probably need to step up the main jet.
Good luck!

What did you do?
EDIT: I really think you are better off removing these to ensure nothing falls off. It would not be good to have loose parts bouncing around behind the stator. Better safe than sorry.

you will definatley need the single throttle cable. The Y cable(stock) has a tendency of sticking, which can become a hazard for the little one. Get in touch with WRHracing.com for that cable. I think they are about $20.00 and well worth the cost...IMO.

Hi:
I have a LT-80, about 1985-1990 I would guess and I drained the oil but I don't know how much to put back in. I can find a nice web page that shows me parts but it doesn't give me the oil capacity. Anybody know how much oil this thing needs?
Thanks

Mark,
I just did my son's. What a change in tension on the thumb throttle lever! We can ride for hours now. Anyway, I went the "so called" simple way. I bought the single throttle cable and installed it. I had to take apart the front plastics to get in there. I then cut the line from the oil tank and the carburetor and put vacuum caps on the lines. Some people loop them back to the oil injection to keep the pump lubricated and just leave it installed. So far, I have not removed the pump and tank. I need to work in steps, just to make sure things work. If you want, I can post pictures, but it's only of cut hoses. I asked questions in this forum and got a lot of good advise. I'll see if I could find the thread. I would definitely get the single throttle cable. I also got my from wrhracing.com. They were really helpful.
Good luck,

Thanks dogg. I like the fact that the new throttle cable is much easier. My daughter has to stop every 10 min. or so to rest her thumb. I think I will order the new throttle set-up and get all the other do-dads this week and take care of the oil injection set-up next weekend.

Want to warn you those screws are pretty soft, you might use an impact driver where you can. And use lots of thread lock to keep things from vibrating loose.
