which one is right for my son?

I agree DB, if he is only 4 ft tall (not a typo is it?) then a mini would probably fit the bill. For low-end power on dirt trails, I'd probably look at the TRX90. Kind of like the thought of the semi auto in your situation. I think it would have enough power for anything but sand or mud.

I think that would be an excellent choice.. .one that he can learn on today, and use for a long time. Given that you have the land issue solved, you probably won't have any problems then.
May I make a suggestion? Get one for yourself while you are at it... no sense in letting the kids have all the fun... ATV riding is a sport best enjoyed WITH them, not just watching them... You deserve a little fun too....

I've never been a big Polaris fan... but that is probably because of my opinion was formed when I was racing snowmobiles in my younger days.. and at that time I rode a Ski-doo... but they are worth a look too. One thing I found interesting was that they have adjustable footwells so you can tailor the machine to the rider as they grow. Another is that they have reverse... something lacking on my son's Yamaha. They come with a riding/training video, a helmet and a flag... THAT is cool... I wish all manufacturers were watching...

Hi again everyone - just wanted to let you know that we decided on the Yamaha Grizz 125 - went to look at one over the weekend and it's awesome!! Also, the 2005 model does have neutral & reverse and we even managed to find one in camouflage! Also, I did goof on my son's height, he is 4'8", not 4 feet tall!! I am obviusly not good at estimating things like height! Thanks again for all of your help!

Great choice.. Welcome to the sport. teach him to be a responsible rider... and let him know that he is in for many hours of enjoyable riding. ATV's carry a heavy responsibility... and we all wish him the best.
