Dinli 90 Pipe Mod
#1
I just purchased a 2001 Dinli TreX. Quad is stock but came with a few parts including a pipe. I installed the big chamber pipe and the quad runs a little sluggish off idle. At full throttle it is just OK. I suspect carb adjustment are necessary to accomodate the pipe. What should I do first? Adjust air screw? Change jet? Will it need bigger or smaller jet?

A pipe alone is not enough. Anytime you change the amount of power the engine is producing, the clutch must be retuned. And, I'm assuming that you haven't changed your jetting? If this is the case, I wouldn't run it much you are WAY too lean and it will seize on you. Depending on the pipe and your true cc's will determine how much you need to do to your clutch and just how much larger your main jet needs to be. I'm betting that you're going to find out that the stock carb is not large enough to feed the pipe...

I disagree with the factory air box. I think it is the main restriction. While jetting may be required, I don't think it will be substantial unless he adds vents or a different air filter.
The biggest problem is the clutch. You will at least need lighter rollers inthe front variator. And it's at what rpms you produce your power (not cc's) that dictates the clutch mods.

I totally agree with what you said, I didn't clarify well enough. The cc issue is if it's a true 89 or 96cc engine. The airbox is the biggest restrictor and if it's the X pipe the 16mm carb won't feed it well enough. You will have to go lighter on rollers, heavier on the driver spring and quite possibly larger carb which drives a new intake.
But you do all this, the top end goes from "ok" to HOLD ON!

And that's also when you get the fever for everything else.

Mr. Richardson,
I am new to this and don't know how to post a picture. The pipe is chrome and has no label on it. It appears to be very similiar to the Hetrick pipe shown at www.hetrickracing.com/exhust%20chrome.jpg. The quad also came with: a big coil clutch spring, the 3 small clutch springs (2000 rpm), roller weights (part# JOG-6.OG) and a K&N style filter. This is all new. There is also a single main jet. I believe it is marked 100 and appears to be new.
I appreciate your help.

Streetrodder,
For me, I like to host pictures in a photo storage system ( like www.webshots.com )and within the post's rich text area, use a "http" Link to point to the picture. For example: - Press Here -
If a viewer wants to see the picture, they click on the URL-Link Pointer. By doing this, it keeps the rich text box smaller for the many folks who are using dial-up access. What ever works best for you and your expected readers.
Hope this helps...
