hello i need advice on a dinli(spelling??)
#1
ok my stepmoms brother is selling his kids 2000 dinli to get him something bigger. i have a 3 year old and 1 year old. i know they wont be able to drive this by themselves for many years. i was gonna get them a 50cc but i figured if im gonna buy one i might get this one so it will last them a long time.
he wants 700 for it. nothing wrong with it, and he has keep up work on it. is this some generic no name brand? and is this a good price?

I'd wait to buy until they're capable of riding. No sense in tempting yourself to push them into something they are not ready for. Start out with a powerwheels for the 3 year old.

well they both have powerwheels. the one year rides them but my 3 year old wont touch them anymore. plus this has a limiter on it according to my dad. he said i can adjust the speed. plus it would cost me that much to get a 50

So you're going to put a 3 year old 40lb kid, that most likely lacks the strength and mental discipline to operate it, on that 230lb machine? They scoot along at a pretty good pace, even with the throttle limiter. Fast enough to flip, anyway.

Maybe you could get you a full-size machine to tote them around on and then buy a mini later on? It's a lot better if you can bark instructions at them as they are learning. And that's easier if you're riding beside them. Think I've seen the 150's for as low as $1400, if cost is the issue.

londonandlawson,
Age 3 does seem to young for me too. Even age 6 on a mini is too young in my family. For now, let's remove this emotional item from your topic. Here's financial things to consider:
1 - If you purchase a used mini at "fair to good price" at today's prices and let it sit (in a hidden location) for 3 years, the price of that unit will depreciate. Not much, but it will depreciate. In 3 years, its product worth would be the same price as if you bought it 3 years from now. From a base cost perspective, you may not have saved any dollars at all.
2 - For 3 years of storage, consider these supports costs:
- Storage fees - especially if you want to keep it hidden.
- "drive it around 15-20 minutes every month" to keep it in working order. If you don't it's engine coould seize, tranny seals go, belts stretches, chains stretches, brake sufaces get rusty, etc.
- Waste in car gas to drive to your strorage barn every month
- Your time to dump/install new gas in the mini every month
- More dollars for new gas every month
- Yearly insurance on the unit,
- etc. - etc.
* Just like in my area, my neighours always loose (aka: waste) dollars when their snowmobiles are in summer storage. Take all these support costs into consideration, your "today's great deal" suddenly becomes an expensive purchase 3 years from now.
If it was me, "I'd let this one go" and keep your eyes open for another great deal 2.5 years from now. By then, the "used" or new minis will be much better then today's current technology. Just like cars 3 years from now will be much better then today's technology (within the same price range). Minis have come a long way in the last 2 years. Stuff like Reverse, Deeper Suspensioners, future double A-Arms, etc. etc. From your perspective, it might be worth waiting 3 years in order to get a mini with more / better features???
Something to think of...
.
