Kazuma M-50 intake fix
#1
I have a repair shop and have seen several Meercat 50s with broken intake manifolds. I have noticed that it is often times due to to either an oversized (adult) rider playing with the bike or after jumping hills or hitting a hole. There is no front suspension so the shock torques the frame and the carb is struck and cracks the aluminum intake manifold due to it sitting so close to the frame rails. I keep a number of these replacement manifolds in stock but have been pondering a more permanant fix. Tell me what you think. I think I will bandsaw a new manifold in two and reconnect it by using a rubber hose, silicone and two hose clamps. This will allow for some flex and wont require bending the frame away from the carb. What do you think?

From my experience I have seen them crack from shipping. These shipping people are not the best when it comes to TLC. But after I have replaced them when they have cracked it usually does not happen again. But if an adult does ride them (because it will pull an adult with no problem) that can cause stress on the intake tube. But your idea sounds good. Let me know if you try it and how it works out.

It seems as though every discussion around this "intake manifold" issue involves one or more salesman who all state the same thing.
They all want to blame it on an adult riding it or the child being to rough with the ATV. We bought ours only 5 months ago, and are already on the 5th replacement manifold. I assure you that I nor any other adult has sat on this thing. As a matter of fact my 50lb son has been THE ONLY person to ride it. We have taken EXTRA precaution to make sure the thing is well taken care of (we paid alot of money for it), and the ground he rides on couldn't get much more level (or boring). After the 2nd or 3rd one broke, we discover that the
carb. was infact hitting the frame. I don't care what anyone says, this is design flaw and should be taken care of by the company who distributes them. Not to mention all the other crap on this thing that has fallen apart or fallen off completely. The "dealer" that we bought it from has had it more than we have. I will say that he has been extremely cooperative with us on working on it, but I'm really getting tired of having to drive it back and forth. I picked it up (again) from him this past Friday, after about a 10 day sleep over, and guess what............I"LL BE RETURNING IT TO HIM TODAY (MONDAY). I'm really close to going on ANTI-KAZUMA campaign (RedCat, Meercat, etc, etc, they're all the same). If you're reading this and are interested in purchasing one of the cheaper ATVs.......please take read all you can about these things, and consider the trouble that you are GUARANTEED to have. DO NOT BUY THESE "CHEAP" foreign made ATVs. Spend the extra cash.
Sincerely,
mark

I think you are just having some real bad luck with your unit. We sell a lot of the 50's and have great luck with them. Many of are costumers have called back and order more of these bikes. Sorry to hear about the troubles you have had with your. Over all we have great luck with all of the bikes. As you can read most of the post in the forums and I think of 90% of the post are very positive on the Kazuma 50's.

I have had a great deal of experiance with the Meercat 50 and have found it to be an excellent little atv, especially for the price. It has a bulletproof 4-stroke Honda clone motor, electric start, headlight, two kill switches, and is a great first ATV in my opinion and almost everyone who has bought one agrees with me completely. Whoever has replaced your manifold 5 times is NOT a mechanic. I have never replaced one more than once. I have on occasion had to shim the motor to create an equal distance between the frame tubes and have heard some suggest spreading the frame tubes slightly though I have never had to do so. I agree that more room should have been engineered into the design of the bike for carb clearance but it is not something that canot be easily remedied. If I had repaired your 50 it would have never come back a second time. Read the numerous reviews on the Meercat 50 and youll see most agree with John and myself.

Just wanted to say thanks to RacewayATV. He's really going out of his way to help me with an issue on our 50, and wanted to let you know that I realize that you don't have to do that. You have no obligations to do so, and I really appreciate your help. You obviously do believe in your quads.

I bought two Kazuma 50's about 3 months ago. The intake manifold broke on one of them last week.

I bought my 5 year old, 40 lb son a Meercat 50 (Redcat KMX-50). Received it on 5/31/05...on 6/05/05 the intake manifold broke. Bought it from 1trail.com which was a mistake. Told me they were shipping a replacement part but I should JB weld it and would be okay until the part came in. It lasted for 30 minutes of use on the circular driveway. I'm still waiting for the part. 1trail will not respond to my e-mails or calls. Should have bought from Raceway. I would like to know if there is anything I can do to prevent the intake from breaking again, if I ever receive the new one. Any help would be great. Thanks, Gary

Txso if the company you bought the bike from will not help you just give me a call and I would be happy to send you out one. As I said before we try to help everyone in the forum even if they did not buy the bike from us.
