filter

so i bought this lt80 used a year ago and its run really well for that long. But just last week the engine seemed a bit down on power and i decided to check out the situation of the filter. So i open the housing and look inside and there is nothing but a 1 inch tall walnut and some dissinegrated foam from what used to be a filter in the air box.
So im now in the market for an air filter and wonder if i should just get a $20 UNI filter or could you fill me in on the other options.
THanKs for the INpuT.

If you are into lots of mud / crud and water riding, you'd probably want to keep the factory air box and replace the filter material. If dry riding conditions, then many use Uni or other faom filters. Some use K&N (with outerware) but "some" say the foam filters are better then K&N. If you go with either filter, some "oil up" a old sock and slip it over the air filter. When the sock is too dirty, simply replace with another worn out sock. The oil on the sock helps trap even more mud / crud and dust from entering into the filter. Thus, the foam filter lasts longer.
If you install a non-factory air filter, you'll probably need to re-jet the carb as well. Most of the time, one must re-jet in order to ensure the spark plug stays at a Beer Bottle Brown color.
Hope this helps...

I agree with Spike's comments on filters. We race and if the track has standing water I put the stock airbox on my kids quad. We use a Uni 2-stage filter with an Outerwear cover. This is far better then the stock airbox/filter but will get soaked with water and choke out motor if alot of water on track. Working on a cover of some kind to keep water off, or maybe an aftermarket intake to relocate carb under seat.
Hope your motor is O.K. Nothing worse then the look of dissapointment on a little ones face.
