There is not one on the 04' for sure. The problem lies with Yamaha's cdi box. We had one and got rid of it since we could not do anything to make it a better quad. Since then I believe raptor80racing.com has some fixes to make this a better machine. You might check with them. Good Luck!!

A little caution here... although I don't think you can modify the machine to the point where you might have issues with safety, I just want to make sure you think about what you bought the machine for in the first place.

The 50 is definately a snail... but that is it's intention. It is desigend for young riders to be a training machine to teach them the fundamentals of riding without giving them too many mechanical things to worry about.

If the child has progressed in skills, you might want to consider upclassing if you can do so and remain legal. You should have no problem selling it for nearly what you paid for it if it was maintained. Plus, upgrading a machine to gain only a couple MPH can turn into a real money pit.

ok hears the deal one yamaha is only leting your 50 cc machine carb open have way so one go to raptor80racing.com and get a jet kit 2 cut the slide valve so it will open all the way two get one of 2 cdi boxes availble form r80r.com 3 get a header and pipe and kandn high flow airfilter 4 race shocks 5 off set wheels and tires then watch this little snail keep up with a 660 in second gear high oh yeah widing kit to really helps and the tires are bigger and run on less air pressure so its works out great the real deal is the carb its only opening half way talk to the guys at raptor80racing.com
so there you have it all the info yo need to make a 50 or 80 run like crazy p.s. if you want to see it run like a bat aout of hell take 8 out of the 12 roller balls in the tranny lighting it and make the top end higher to get it to grab lots of power to be hade just have to know how to get to it oh yeah i think you can geta 4 speed tranny from the 80 to fit a 50 not sure yet looking in to it good luck and by the way 50 cc in a yamaha is a 50 cc in any other machine
cool later happy riding

Everyone says that the 50 is a learning stage quad and that is true. The problem is that a 50 Suzuki and a e-ton or any other machine will do 20 miles an hour and a top dollar raptor 50 does 12 mph. That is sad and so I see no reason why someone wouldn't modify this quad to at least stay close to the other 50's. I am sad to see how slow this quad is. Not only do you pay top dolllar for this machine but you need to buy a aftermarket cdi box just to get a decient top speed. Yamaha should have just let the parent be the judge of how fast we want the machine to go. Now we have to pay 100+ for the cdi box and 250+ for the exhaust just to get the thing to move as fast as a cheaper e-ton or any other normal 50. I think that is BS and Yamaha should warn people of this before you purchase it. I know there are some people who made a big enough stink, that they ended up taking the quad back. You pay top dollar for something, so you should get what you paid for. What should I expect to get on the top end with the procom cdi box and the slider in the carb opened all the way? I hope by doing these two things, I will get it to 20 mph. That is all I am looking for. Not asking a lot here and of course I wouldn't do this if my son wasn't a smart, good, well rounded little rider. Also, if I put the bigger tires on it down the rode, what will I see on the top end? What size tire and rims are we talking about? Thanks!
