I have a 2002 and unless I am missing something there is no crankcase oil. Just the 2 stroke oil that you put under the seat in the little tank. Mabey your '86 is not injected and you need to premix?

There is oil to change. It's an engine that needs oil just like any other. Check on the bottom and you'll see a drain plug. I don't think you want to run a synthetic in there because of the clutches but I could be mistaken.

Well I'll be dipped. That is twice that I have been wrong. I thought it was like a chainsaw that was just lubed with the 2stoke oil. So, I found what looks like the drain plug now where does the new oil go in? Is there a filter? How huch oil does it take? At the risk of sounding like a dumb@#$% again, I dont think the centrufical clutch is a wet system like a manual type. Chainsaws and mopeds again are what I am comparing this too, so I could be wrong.

i think i could use the oil because it is a motorcycle oil and not just a car one.

Don't feel bad my neighbor told me. The oil reservoir under the seat is the engine oil and the other is the transmission oil. The manual says to use 10w-40 in it. The filler cap is on the right side(sitting on the bike) You need to take off the plastic footwell to get to it. You will see a big round bolt on the side, facing upwards, that is the oil filler. Down below that to the right you'll see a smaller bolt(8mm?) that is the oil level screw. Drain the oil when warm from the drain plug on the bottom, replace drain bolt, remove both the side bolts(screws), fill from the bigger screw untill level reaches the oil level screw(trickles out, about 16 ounces), replace side screws and you're done!!

It's actually in the owners manual, but I didn't read it until I was told either pg. 63.
