In case anyone was interested in my Dinli not starting
#1
Today I had some free time so I worked the Dinli. Before it was dying once in a while under hard loads and high ambient temps, until finally we were out riding and it stopped and would not start anymore. A liitle about us and our riding habits, my son rides hard (mostly full throttle, he's 11) and will only stop at the camp for fuel or water/gatorade) and in the sand/ hardpack dirt. Long trips he's always behind me.
Well, I pulled the carb again and sprayed it with carb cleaner then blew with LP air, put another set of reeds in it and still no luck. Started checking compression pressure and only should 45 psi. Hmm, not a total dumby but seems kinda low. So I decided to yank the head and jug then found severe metal movement from the lower ring over the bottom ring etc.......
So the jug is somewhat scored and the piston/rings are trashed. But the real delemia is why? What would cause this?
I figured I would start this post to try and help some people out, troubleshooting is somewhat difficult, but finding the roo cause to a problem harder, or is it? Turns out all of the metal carryover was right at the intake port of the piston, after looking at most of the motor, and even cleaning the UNI filter, the hose clmap for the filter fell off and half the clamping surface was cracked. DIdn't see it wen I was cleaning the filter, but was wide open when clamped ont he carb, and the filter cover covered most of it.
