Default Polaris scrambler oil cap

Both my kids own Scramblers,50cc & 90cc. Great little quads except when I fill up the oil tank and we go for a ride the cap comes off spilling injection oil all over. Right now I have two elastic hair bands from my daughters collection holding them on. Anyone got a better solution?

This may sound strange and when I read it again, it does sound strange but in a way, it does work.

Remove the cap and take a little branding iron tool. One of those wood crafting tools to burn letters in tool. With a hot tool, slightly melt one area of 2 threads on the OI tank. After cooling, screw the cap back on.

When I need a lock washer for a bolt thread and don't have one, I take a hammer and hit its threads. Thus, "buring up" the threads on the one side. This makes it much harder for its nut to screw on and come off. Perhaps this "burn up its threads" idea might work for your OI tank threads as well.

Worth thinking about....

Thanks for the input, I see your 90cc polaris has the oil injection removed. If you still have it around and take a look at it, it is not threaded. The cap is a rubber plug type deal that pushes into the neck of the oil tank. works great when only half full though! Let me know.

Our '03 Pred-90 definately has a "screw on" top cap. For pictures, surf:

As a suggestion, visit your local Polaris dealers and do a visual of their newer minis. Hopefully, they have a few minis on their showroom floor. If it has the same size OI tank as your model, drop me a PM. I could mail you my OI tank (you pay shipping) and your can fit it into your current mini. Or if their OI tanks with screw top isn't too much, you may want to buy one from your local dealer.

Hope this helps...

Hi, I checked on the Polaris website and it seems they changed over to the screw cap type in 2002. They are 23.99 and 4.54 for the cap. I will contact the local dealer and see if they are interchangeable. Thanks for your input and I will let you know. Jim......
