Default Need Predator help

I have a 2006 predator 90 and am past due for an oil change... I refered to the owners manual and it does not say where the drain plug is. Shouldnt be to hard, look under the thing and find the plug. Well, I found what I belive to be the drain plug but the skid plate is in the way AND its welded on. Also the SHCS bolt im looking at requires a large allen wrench I dont have. While at the dealer i bought it from, picking up a spare part for another quad, I asked the parts guy what that size was. He said 8mm. It def. is not 8mm, its bigger then 10, and all the bolts on the carb I have worked on have been standard, not metric. So im confused, is the carb standard, and the rest of the bike metric?? Am i looking at the wrong bolt to drain the oil?? What size is that (12mm, 1/2in)?? And if I get this thing off is it going to be a big pain getting the darn thing back on due to the skid plate? I appreciate any and all info.

I have an 06 predator that is a 2 stroke and therefore has no engine oil as far as I know??? I dont think they made a 4 stroke but I could be wrong. If there is oil in mine it is VERY dirty!!! lol

I used wrong wording there. Yes, its a 2 stroke, and uses oil in the fuel via oil injection to lubricate the motor. However It also has gear oil which is located in the tranny and needs to be changed out reguarly. I worked it all out on sunday. Had to brave the cold garage. There is a drain plug near the bottom rear of the transmission. There is a hole in the skid plate to get a socket up to it. Then remove the seat and a small plastic fairing on the right side (throttle side) of the bike. Next remove the plastic heat shield from the exhaust and you will now have full view of the oil level sight glass and the fill plug. The fill plug is in there a ways and can be a pain to get the oil to. I found if you remove the top bolt on the heat shield bracket and loosen the bottom bolt you can rotate this out of the way and get just enough room to get a oil bottle to the fill plug and with a carefull slow pour get it in without making a big mess. Fill it up to the middle of the sight glass. Took a bit less then half of a quart. I used gearsaver gear oil but have yet to see how this oil works out in this bike. I hope this helps for anyone who may be doing this to a similar bike for the first time.

Also for what its worth, you got the perfect year predator. In 2007 the only predator 90 i know of, only comes in HOTT PINK!! They started a new line called the Outlaw, a heavier 4-stroke 90. Every manafacture is stearing away from the 2-strokes anymore. Also all the predators earlier then 06 had no headlights, only stickers that looked like headlights.

Thanks for the usefull information - I had no idea! The bike only has 20 or so hours on it but has seen lots of water and mud. I am going to do this right away - I hope it's not milky...

Why did you choose to use gearsaver gear oil and where do you get it?

I know with my sportsman the oils are very specific but I like to change them often. I was hoping to find substitutes for this bike but have stuck with the polaris products for now.

Thank again!
