Hi all! New to the board and have found a wealth of info already.
Just picked up a used 04 Unison Desert Cat 50 and it looks to be light years ahead of the Broketas we owned. I found the link to the 60+ page manual for it in an older post on the board and that was very helpfull. I see there are a few Unison lovers out here and am wondering if you have any Unison specific tips. My big question is what types of oil do you reccomend for everything? This is our 1st 2 stroke and I'm tempted to run out and get synthetic everything but figured I'd better ask first. From the looks of the plug and air filter element I'm going to say fluids have never been changed either.

 

You can use a synthetic 2 stroke oil made for oil injection. Synthetic is always better. It burns cleaner , smokes less and smells better. The air filter you can just wash with soap and water then use air filter oil. For teh gearbox you can use a gear oil like 70w90 or similar. The Unison is a great quad and tough as nails. Just go over the whole machine and make sure everything is tight, oiled and adjusted.

 

We have had our 50 for a few years now. It works fine in the dirt but when I added paddles and put it in the sand its REALLY slow. I am considering trying to upgrade it so it will go faster for our 6 year old but if its too much money I might just buy him a 110 and save the 50 for our daughter when she gets older. I am thinking the upgrade would involve a pipe and new jets. Anyone out there do an upgrade yet?
