Default eton 50 won't start

My sons eton 50 was running but won't start now. Recently replaced exhaust with new model from eton (same as 70cc part now). It will run very briefly fully choked with throttle half open when fuel is turned off. Seems like a carb issue. Do I need new/different jets with the new exhaust pipe? I've tried draining/replacing the gas. Spark arrestor is spotless and there is definitely spark. Also verified good gas flow into the carb. Any help would be appreciated.

I would agree that it is in the carb, There should have been instructions with the pipe it you needed to change the jetting. Usually when they change part numbers they are compatable to what you had. I would take the carb off and make sure that both jets are clean. It almost sounds like both your jets are plugged. One other thing to check is it almost sounds like what would happen if you were to lose alot of compression. So I would check the compression as well. Good Luck

So I've pulled the carb off our eton 70 and put it on the 50. The 50 runs fine with this carb. I've pulled the 50s carb apart and cleaned it thoroughly with no joy. Think maybe something is wrong with the float setup. I've ordered a rebuild kit but I'm concerned that the float will still be off. Is there a way to properly set up the float? Also, who manufactures these carbs? Is it Mikuni? Does anyone know the model number?

Something that has helped me in the past, go to google and type in " how a carbeurator works" it will give you many hits, look around you will find a complete breakdown that explain exactly whats going on in the carb and expalin how to troubleshoot carb problems.

The jets are very small in these carbs, so cleaning them is a pain in the *ss, I use an individual strand if wire and run in through the jets lenghwise to ensure it is not clogged. soaking the jets in carb cleaner or kerosene for a few hours will help.

Good Luck,
