I Own A Hi Bird 250STW Sport
#12
I have the same Hi-Bird 250 and have had a blast with it. Its a 250 on a 300 or 350 frame. Its really wide for us big boys. I'm really hard on mine.I broke the right tie-rod and spindle, and had it repaired in a week. I've also did donuts on it so fast it was on two wheels and finally rolled over. That tore up the bearing in swing-arm and broke both rear fender brackets. I would suggest to change out the chinese bolts and replace with american bolts with lockwashers. That way you can have a good time all day instead of looking for bolts or parts down the trails. I have mine apart now getting some welding done on it. Overall I have to say it was well worth the money. I bought mine and picked it up for $1450. It has enough power and speed for the trails I ride.

Do you have a picture of yours, come on we have to share. I had the same problems with the bolts but I have fixed them. I have not broke anything yet, but from how you discribe your adventures you are really giving your quad a workout.

Hey Darrel, Sorry been out of town and couldn't get pics in but here are some of mine with the swing-arm off. The batteries on mine and my wifes wouldn't charge so replaced hers and mine.I'm trying a bigger one on mine because I had the space. I took the bracket out and made a new one to hold the battery in. Got bearings ordered from a local bearing shop, but still need the rubber seal to get the swing-arm back together. Gonna have to wait till after Memorial Day to get it to put back together. Will let you know how it works afterwards. My brakes are the only really problem I'm having. I'm not a brake mechanic, and the front and back brakes work together on this one. So if anyone knows these brakes, please I could use some help.I know they just needed to be bled but I don't know how.Needless to say I can make this thing fast as hell but can't stop it lol.

becareful with the battery, I tried the same thing and the battery leaked on my swing arm. As far as the breaks go, I cant help there, I am surprised that your breaks work together, mine are separate. The only thing I dont like is that thwe breaks are not tight enough, it takes a lot to stop.
Have fun on the rebulid

I love improving on it just as much as riding it now. I have 3 boys all have dirt bikes and my wife has a hi-bird 250 too. My garage is like a pit stall. The front brakes will stop and then the back will stop after pulling the the brake lever. If I use the brake pedal it stops the back only. It blows me away, have no clue. Told a friend about it and he rode it, and he says the same thing.

wow nice pics, scared me to think what I may have to do someday. I will be taking mine out this thursday. I noticed the rear wheel hubs were coming loose, you might want to check them. I will have to get some more pics of mine. I will work on my breaks this week and let you know what I come up with. I want to be able to stomp my rear breaks and have them lock up. Until them

I think I already tried to tighten my hubs and something kept me from tightening them up,but I can't remember.I'll check it out and see, since I can't ride mine. Besides the cops have told all down my street we can't ride across the street anymore so I'd end up with a ticket if mine was fixed lol. Have fun and until next time.
