RK Heavy duty Pro 428 chain.
Anyone know if the gold versus the non gold chain has any strength differnces?
is it just cosmetic?
Why spend an extra $10 to get gold?

Well I've had my TaoTao 250D for a few days and I think I'll document my problems so others may learn. So far it is running well, I am planning to take it out to my hunting lease this weekend to really give it a long run.
Issues thus far:
1. Chinese owners manual is written in very bad english. I don't understand why they don't get a person fluent in english to write these manuals. I would help out if they asked. Also very limited manual with many errors. If you see errors in my post here thats because I'm typing fast and not checking my spelling so no chinese jokes about my typing.
2. The manual says to use spark plug NGK C7HSA. This is not the correct spark plug. you should in fact use the NGK D8EA as mentioned earlier. The sellers said the main plant said they put in NGK spark plugs but my ATV had a generic. Not a big deal because it worked, but I will replace it soon.
1st actual repair:
3. The fuel valve had a leak in the area it connects to the gas tank. An easy fix. just drained the fuel, unscrewed the fuel valve, replaced the o-ring and a little teflon tape around the threads , screwed it back in and it was fixed.
the fuel filter / screen is attached to the fuel valve and inside the tank so you can not easily get to it if you need to clean it. I know this is normal for most but do many ATV also have an inline fuel filter for easy access. What are most of the name brand ATVs using now days?
I ordered a new chain and sproket that should be in next week so I'll see how that goes next week.

You can actually loose power if you use the wrong octane. Lots of things influence what octane to use, weather, engine design, engine tuning, engine temps, altitude etc. Lots of people think that if they use a higher octane they will get more power. If the engine is not designed for it they will actually loose power and visa versa. Octane rating is how slows the flame wave flows in the chamber. If it ignites too early or moves to fast you will get ping. If too slow you will loose the full explosive potential of the explosion through your exhaust valves. In simple terms.

the screen on the fuel shut off valve is not a fuel filter, it is only a strainer only, not a filter, if your quad does not have a inline fuel filter between the fuel tank and the carburetor you need to install one immediately before you ride your quad anymore.

GHcoe,
The owners manual says to use 90 octane or higher.
But I've found ither errors in the manual also.
I think using 90 octane gas would be OK

I've been running 93 octane in mine as my emmissions sticker says to use 90 or more. It seems to run pretty well on the 93 octane

Hi Mitchal, can you give me a link to where you purchased your 13 tooth sprocket and chain also, what size chain did you have to get? Thanks!

I purchased my sprocket and chain from the local honda dealership. I just gave them the part description listed in the first post and then they ordered it. The price was about the same as online and I paid no shipping or handling thus the reason I
went with the local dealership.
I also picked up some chain lube at the dealership also.
As for the size. I got a 120 link but will have to cut it down with my drummel tool. If you take your old chain in they can tell you what size you have now. That same size should work out fine even with the smaller front sprocket.
