Default Hi I need some help getting Red Cat 90goingcc

Hello everyone, I recently had trouble figureing out how to get my 90cc redcat to turn over.. thanks to the forum i got that problem solved!

Now I just need help getting it to run, haha

here's whats going on.. I bought a new battery the engine turns over (honestly it sounds like just the starter is turning, it doesnt sound like its turning the engine, I put it in gear and it will move a little but not enough to roll (like for example, if you attempted to turnover a manual car in gear, it would roll) is this normal that the quad moves slightly but doesnt roll when turning over in gear?

I cleaned the carb 3 times, it's spotless...the thing wont start,it just doesnt sound like the starter is turning the engine, i dont hear any "attempted start sounds" coming out of the exhaust, i have plenty of spark.

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a list of what to check, id really like to get this thing running! The carb is clean and battery is new, i'm getting spark... when i turn it over the starter cranks fast so its not low volts, its almost like the starter is cranking TOO fast, like it's not connected to the engine lol how can icheck if the starter is turning the engine enough to start it, and any links on how to take the engine plate cover off so i can see whats going on in there? how do I check timing? I know how to reset it on 49cc and briggs engines but not these.

how would i do a good home compression check? I'm very familarwith 49cc engines but not 90cc,, i know how to check compression on a 49cc (hold hand over sparkplug hole and crank it over) is it the same for these?

any help is great!please

sorry for the long post, i tried to fit it all in one post haha

thanks
-mike

Also what's this I read about adjusting the valves? Could this be a contributer to my problem? Also what are the default carb mixture screw settings just to get it started? Any help appreciated my little nephew is dying to ride it!

Any help please? I worked on it for 4 hours today very frustrated lol.

I'm getting spark, I'm getting fuel ( held my palm over the air intake in the carb and cranked it over, my hand got wet from fuel). So what am I doing wrong? I'm going nuts lol I have today and tomorrow off I'd like to make some progress even if it won't run I'd like to atleast get it to start for a second of even an attempted start n stall , any sign of life! Lol

I held my hand over the exhaust and there was no sucking in so that means I have at least decent conpression right?

I put in in gear, lifted the rear wheels n cranked it over, the wheels do spin slowly so the starter is turning the engine. I just don't get why it won't start. I took the carb apart n re cleaned it for the 5 th tine, what should I set the screws/jets too I'm reffering to The adjustable spring loaded screws ?

Please someone help I need to know what to check I can't afford to take it to a shop and I hate it just sitting herE.

How do I check the valve settings on this? Any help or suggestions are appreciated please.

Wow no responses, I'm surprised!

Your description makes it sound like the starter is not engaging. I would verify first if the starter is engaging. It sounds like it's turning, but the gear on the starter that spins out and engages the motor is not working. I don't know your model. Can you take any covers off and see what the starter is doing or just take the starter off and test it off the quad?

Thanks very much for your reply! I was surprised also this forum is usualy quick to help!

Anyways, so what am I looking for when I check the starter out? I know when I put the quad in gear and go to crank it over it will lurch forward and roll a couple of inches. So if the starter was fully engadging the quad should keep rolling while in gear?

I'll take the covers off right now and take some pics, can anyone point me where to look?

It lurches forward so that makes it sound like the starter is engaging. If you take out the plug and put your finger over the plug hole while engaging the starter is it puffin air out of the plug hole? If so then definitely sounds like the starter is engaging. The next step would be to ensure you have the 3 requirements for combustion, air, gas, and spark. Air is easy, make sure your filter is clean and no obstructions in the air pathway to the carb. Spark is checked by pulling the plug, connect it to the plug wire and touch the plug end to the head. When you turn over the engine you should have a nice blue spark at the plug tip. The way I initially check for fuel is to crank it over a bunch (plug in this time), pull the plug and it should be wet on the tip with fuel. Check these things out and let me know. I am not a pro like a lot of these guys, but I also never take my stuff into the repair shop and do it all myself.

One last thought is that I am planning on doing some repairs to my kids atvs this weekend. It's suppose to rain so I figure it's a good time to spend in the garage. If you don't get anywhere with the above I could give you my number and we can see what we come up with over the phone. Where are you at anyway?

Thanks again for the help! I'm in rhode island, wish you were closer I'd definetly throw you some money to help me fix this!

I checked for spark, I'm getting blueish white spark, I know it could be better but it should be enough to even get an attempted start! I'm going to try to record a video of what the quad is doing in a little while (check back in a few hours) I took the air filter off to assure it's getting air flow for the time being.

I haven't checked for fuel on the plug yet, I will do that right now.

When I mentioned that the quad lurches forward when in gear and cranked over it only jumps a few inches it doesn't continue to roll, is that normal?

I was hopeing it's something small but now it's starting to look bad haha, I called a bunch of shops and they want 60-90 just for a diagnostic!!! I have a new born and can't afford that just for a diagnostic, that's nuts! Lol

I went to buy a compression tester and autozone wanted 70 , I have money put aside but I rather save that for the parts themselfs rather than spend 100 before I even know what it needs! So I greatly appreciate the help.
