Question Thick cloud of smoke when i rev the engine and sputters

On my 200cc gio beast when i rev the engine up it starts to sputter for a second like its gonna stall, but then it revs up and there is a big thick could of dark smoke that comes out of the exhaust. Also it seems if i give it too much gas to fast it wants to sputter out and die. Anyone know the problem?

Also i recently cleaned the carb (2 times actually) with carb cleaner and compressed air and all that, but before i cleaned it it would not rev up at all. Now it has this smoke problem and its still not running right, it always sputters and wants to die.

Have you checked the easy things like the plug and make sure your air filter is clean?

hm, I got a bike used, and it had the wrong type of plug in, and the coil cap couldn't seat properly, causing the bike to bog sometimes at anything over like 1/4 throttle or less maybe even.. it was almost intermitten like when the bike was warmed up it would do it. I changed it to the type with the threads on top terminal rather than the aluminum looking cap and the coil cap seated properly and we ran it for like a full tank today without issue.. the bogging was happening today prior to changing the plug out...

diagram above shows where the terminal is, here's the different kind

this is the threaded type..

I could've swore it was just a cap. but I tried to get it off and pulled the terminal outta the plug, I thought the cap would unscrew and turns out the terminals is screwed into the insulator... anyway, could be a possible problem if that cap is on and not supposed to be. or it's off and it's supposed to be on...

Those little "caps" on the spark plugs do screw off. Righty tighty, lefty loosey? Maybe you turned the wrong way? You're not a dumb blonde now are ya?

no, I unscrewed it right and the terminal unscrews from the insulator as well! and that's where it came off, I'll get pix when I can...

No need for pics, must be a bad plug. I know for a fact the caps unscrew. I have 2 lt80's and have to take them off every time I put in a new plug.

I've unscrewed them before but this one maybe was run like this too long and heat cycled too many times I suppose.. so I think at least... but like I said it runs well with the new plug. no more bogging at any amount of throttle when rode for a little while, seemed to ride fine the 1st like 15minutes or so then couldn't move well even on flat ground but after I changed the plug it seemed better rode it for a full tank after that...

Geeze! You ran a whole tank through it. Those things use so little gas.....how long did that take?

I have a Gio Beast too, and it does this if I leave it idle for a few minutes, I think the poor designed intake manifold is to blame, I think it is also the cause of them not running the greatest when cold. I think fuel pools in the base of the intake and when you give it gas, the extra air pulls in the excess gas and it temporarly gets a ton of gas. If yours does it often, or all the time, you may be running quite rich, check your plug color. I have a mikuni carb now, and it does the same thing as the stock carb. I have an NGK plug in mine.

For those that dont know the intake manifold on these motors is about 6-8" long, and made from aluminum, it comes out of the carb, goes almost straight up about 4" then turns and goes into the engine. When cold, I think fuel condenses in the manifold and runs down, and pools. Also, the intake manifold seems large, I am wondering if there is not much airflow in the manifold at idle? If I start mine up and immediately start driving it, I can turn the choke off almost right away, but it I let it sit and warm up, it takes forever to get it to run good and I cant take the choke off for like 5 minutes. My GF has a Gio beast too, and it is the same way.
