I'm not sure where to go from here. I might order a new fanwheel and see if they are made different for non kick start models.

Take the nut off, leave the claw washer on,install the fan wheel or starter clutch as it's called, washer then the original nut.Best to use an air impact on this as I remember it's tough trying to get this done with a ratchet. This should get you fixed up as far as the kick starter. No changes in parts from the 2001-2006 two stroke models.2007 they went to 4 strokes and still had kick starters, but internals were different.

Well I took the nut off and there is barely enough room for the star washer on the fanwheel. There is no way the clutch one wat will fit on. I'm confused on the machine.

I just wondering if I need to get #30 in the picture. I wonder if it's shorter than what I have and will allow the fanwheel to side on to get the one way to attach.

That shouldn't matter on #30,but no harm in trying. All I remember is that there is very little room to get the little starter clutch(fan wheel as you call it) washer and nut back on. That why I had to use an impact. Again I hope this is a Polaris engine, since it didn't have one to begin with.

Is there a way to tell if this is a Polaris engine? Is there a serial number on the block or markings to identify it?

Are there markings on the engine that would say Polaris or a serial number?

All I can remember off hand is the vin # started with RF series, but as far as engine serial numbers,I never paid that much attention as to what and where they were located.Just remembered the engine serial number is behind the gear case fill plug.Don't know if that helps.
